clockard - It would cost money, but just like both of our kids being CTN's.  They are "road blocked" from advancement opportunities because of all the CTM's that cross rated went it 1st established.

Remember, the CT rating is affected by the overmanning just like the other ratings, but we are just in a better position.

What you're going to see happen is the senior people will remain in, just so they can get 20 year to retire.  This will cause more mid level sailors (your son and mine) to say "why should I stay in when there are numerous jobs in the civilian world that need network people".  So they will get out.  Now you won't have experienced working people. (remember Chief's are management they really don't work the mission).  Boy, I know I'm gonna get hammered for that comment.

The Navy better best be thinking of offering the early retirement in certain rating or they will be screwed.  Just like SRB, you offer it only to those ratings that are needed to keep the qualified sailors going.

I bet another thing you'll see is the PFA standards even getting more tight.  What a easy way for the Navy to get rid of people by using "he's not physically fit".  It's just a simple process....

  • CTmomof3

Hmm have technical difficulties here. I posted then poof it gone now..

It is Teeny, tiney so what would a CTR be doing there and like I posted before where do they live.on a different base?

  • Craig

CTmomof3 - Don't tell her, but she far from paradise.

I'm not sure if they built a barrack there now or not.  Back then, the sailors were allowed to live in the economy.

I actually am really good friends with the Information Warfare Officer (IWO) aka Johnny Bravo (since he looked like and acted like the cartoon character) who's in charge of all the CT's at White Beach in 2009.  I haven't talked to him in a while, so I'm not sure where he's stationed at now. Let me see if I can contact him and trying to find some more info.  I will need to wait until Monday since I will need to look him up on the CT address book.

  • Craig

This might not make sense to some of you, but to see what ratings are overmanned and which aren't,  it's called Career Reenlistment Objectives (CREO).

    CREO 1 = Undermanned

CREO 2 = Manned at desired level

    CREO 3 = Overmanned.

To see the list, just goto Fleet Ride:

    http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/career/careercounseling/pages...

(you may want to bookmark that link, since I know someone else will ask the question about CT manning levels)

then about the middle of the page, look for "CREO Listing".  This will open into an Excel format so you can see it.  MAKE SURE YOU CLICK ON THE TAB ON THE BOTTOM FOR "ACTIVE DUTY CREO"

We really enjoyed the A school graduation yesterday. The speakers were fantastic. Our sailor told us that he was glad they told us a little information about the CT rate because he is never sure what he is allowed to say and isn't.
  • CTmomof3

Thanks Craig, anything you can find out is greatly appreciated, trust me I won't say a word...shh.mums the word....um how do I put this nicely...she's not my favorite person....god know's I've tried.

    Woo-hoo...

    My grand daughter made the:

Beautiful Babies of Hawaii 2012 Trade Calendar...

    http://www.islandheritage.com/beautiful-babies-of-hawaii-2012-trade...

She was December 2012, on the bottom right of the months.  Yea, I know it's really hard to see, but it won't be once I buy that calendar.

  • sunshine73

    Awwwww, what a beautiful babe!
  • Craig

I like them.  Too bad the only photo of the series of 50 they gave us is the one with the left eye half way shut.  Probably because they knew we couldn't really use it.....  This picture was just taken today...She was trying to do the "Hang Ten" sign, but it ended up being the Long Horn sign...

Sorry for posting so many pictures, but I had too...

  • glassdog

Craig I know you have probably answered this 100 times and probably recently.  Our sailor is heading for Hawaii next month and is trying to get information on who to go to for getting the information to move his stuff there.  I am sure some where in all the paper work they have given him it is there, but he is not finding it.  Who does he contact to have his household items(bed, etc.) sent there?  His car is taken care of.  The info I saw talked about the car but not really anything about his household stuff.
  • Craig

He needs to go to his Personal Property Office (PPO).  It is sometimes also called Personal Property Shipping Office (PPSO).  But, he should really talk to his LPO or Chief to find out where it is on base.  At least they can put the word out to the rest of the sailors too.  It's alot easier to solve a bunch of questions while waiting at muster.

Since he's at Corry, he can also use these phone numbers.

For Corry Station, the phone number is:

Personal Property Office - Corry Station

    (850) 452-6105
    (850) 452-6086
    DSN: 922-6105

    or

Personal Property Inbound NAS Pensacola (850) 452-4730
    (850) 452-4727
    DSN: 922-4730

If he is at any base in the world, he can always call the Navy's Household Goods Helpline toll-free at 1-800-444-7789, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 pm. Eastern Time. The Helpline also can be reached by e-mail at nvtrnshhghelpline@navy.mil

His PPO can make arraignments to ship all of his stuff from Corry, or anyplace else (ie his Home-of-Record).  They do it all.

Here is some of the official stuff, which he doesn't need to read, but you as a mom will probably do it just because you're a mom  ~ha.

    Hello CT family,

My son just left for bootcamp this last week and he will be going to school for CTR.  He is very excited about it.  I look forward to chatting with you all.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Welcome JapanMom.  My son just finished boot camp 1 week ago and is at Corry Station waiting to class up for CTR.

Craig - sorry I wasn't able to find and congratulate that Chinese SR at the 07/01/2011 PIR.  Because PIR was outside and not at Freedom Hall, we, the "audience" were seated over 100 yards behind the SR's.  We couldn't see faces (or anything else for that matter...).

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Welcome JapanMom   My son graduates as a CTR July 29th  He has really enjoyed Pensacola
  • Craig

1st off - Welcome JapanMom, glad to have you onboard...

I totally agree with here4kids, you need to join the PIR group for your sailor also. Just so you have the complete package (ie PIR and the CT stuff).  I just looked at your groups and you've joined LAST YEARS, division number.  You need to go to this link to find what PIR group your kid is in for THIS year.  Go to this link to find his group.

    http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date

Just wanted to capitalize it so you notice it.

Paula - That's ok, she hasn't logged in yet on my website, but I know she will once she gets out of the boot camp mode, and into the school mode.  Since she is a Green Card holder, she will not be going to "A" school, and will be going to the fleet undesignated as an Airdale (those that are in the aviation world).  btw, it's alot easier to write Paula instead of Capricorna...~ha

clockard - She just a little more cute than her Grandfather.  Remember, I've got it going on too....

  • calliecl

Is there a site to get information on A school graduation ceremonies? My son is supposed to graduate as a CTT on July 21st but can't find any information.
  • JapanMom

    Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Craig-my oldest son went to bootcamp last year.  I still chat with all of them from last year.  I actually remember you joining in!  I am waiting to hear the PIR date for my son that just left and then I will join that group also.  I thought it would be good to join this group as I have never been around the CT world.  My husband is a brown shoe so we have been around planes his whole career.  :)

  • sunshine73

Welcome Japanmom!!! I just got home from seeing my Sailor graduate A school. He IS A CTR! Yay! He will be there for C school and then has orders for Hawaii.
  • sunshine73

calliecl~we got no information on my son's A school graduation until 2 days prior. They are held in the Chapel and usually start at 9am. The attendance is small and if you get there by 8:20 you should be fine. Sit on the right side.  It was very relaxed. They really cater to the families at this graduation. they will even pause when presenting the certificates for you to take pictures. they had a nice little reception area with coffee and doughnuts. I enjoyed this one a little bit more than PIR. Although I enjoyed PIR, it was a little long when all I wanted to do was see my kid.lol  oh yeah, one more little bit of info: the day prior to my son's group had a class dinner and took pictures. we didn't see him at all the Thursday before. It is a long story but his class was behind and actually didn't take their final exam until the day before their graduation. Both sets of grandparents where upset about missing a whole day with him. Just wanted to prepare you for that possibility.
  • sunshine73

Do any of your children sing at graduations? If so, I have a picture. Message me and I will send it to you.
  • CTmomof3

I should have asked this yesterday. Is it best to send a package to Corry via US Mail or UPS?  My son said  NOT FEDEX but didn't say how.
  • Craig

I say USPS also.  Quick, Easy, Painless....
  • CTmomof3

Whew thanks for the quick answer. He's needing his laptop. like yesterday mom. ahh kids. Looking at pricing with insurance etc US Priority is much cheaper..so that's what I'm doing. Like the spacebag Idea as I need to send 2pkgs couldn't get the cloths to all fit in with the computer.
  • Craig

Frankly, what I love about USPS is they send you free boxes to pack the stuff.  I do alot of ebay stuff and I could order 100 of them if I wanted.  I usually order just the 10 packs because it doesn't take up space in my house....

    http://ebaysupplies.usps.com/usps

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

I love the spacebag idea for packing the box!  Thanks!  I was going to send stuff via FedEx, but will switch to a USPS flat rate box - I ship stuff via USPS for work all the time, so it will be much easier.  CTmomof3 - our sons PIR'd the same day.

My son plans on buying a new laptop there.

this is getting way ahead, but I'm curious:  Once they finish A (and maybe C) school, how in the world do they transport all the stuff they have accumulated???  Between the seabag and garment bag, my son couldn't carry much more!

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

The USPS Military Priority rate is $2.00 cheaper.

My son did not give me an APO/FPO address.

Is there one for Corry Station?

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Are APO/FPO addresses only for outside the US?

I'm really new at this stuff.

  • CTmomof3

Apo fpo are over seas addresses. However ships even when not deployed still use the apo/ fpo

when my son was on base at ft Gordon he did not have a overseas address.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

    Thanks Sandy. That makes sense.
  • CTmomof3

Apo Fpo are used when stationed over seas. If you are stationed on a base here you do not get an apo fpo address. Except like I said for the ships
  • mumziepooh

Sunshine - my son sings but I don't know if he was there since he had a big test on Friday.....if so, I would love the pic!
  • JapanMom

FPO/APO addresses are for ships and overseas only.  My mailing address in Japan is an FPO.  It is my husband's work.  It stinks because now everything I order online goes to him and you have to put a customs form on the boxes declaring everything inside.  No more buying things without my husband knowing! :(

  • Craig

Japan - I would have alot of fun with that.  Man I would embarrass him by putting alot of weird things on that customs form.  I would have soooo much fun....
  • JapanMom

Craig-it would be fun....until they open and find all the things I am trying to sneak in!

  • glassdog

Craig, once again thank you for the information.  You are a life saver.  Now if the web site he needs to go to will stay up long enough for him to print out his orders it would help.

  • Craig

glassdog - He can actually go to PSD and get his orders too...

Japan - I hear ya.  Shipping all that porn in is a real b*tch.... Now watch, you'll try to deny it....

  • CTmomof3

Craig, there was an article on Navy.mil about the  Navy revising enlisted career paths to emphasize service at sea, 36 ratings  will see an increase of sea time. It said to go to   http://www.npc.navy.mil/ to see the complete list of career paths.  I don't see it. any idea how to find out what rates will be affect?
  • Craig

CTmom - I had to find out where you saw that, so please next time put the link to the original source, then I can blaze the trail to give you an answer what it means.

Here is the paragraph that tells me where to go:

"NAVADMIN 201/11 provides the Fleet with the updated sea shore flow for every rating. Thirty-six ratings will see an increase in sea time, and 18 will now be classified as sea intensive. Sailors in these ratings can expect to spend more than half their careers at sea."

The Navy release NAVADMIN messages all the time.  These are the messages that tell you soooo much.  To find the NAVADMIN messages:

    • Go to the link they provided http://www.npc.navy.mil/
    • Click on "Reference Library"
    • Pull down to "Messages"
    • Click on "NAVADMINs"
    • Select the NAVADMIN you want on the left hand side.  Since this is 201/11 you'd chose "NAVADMIN 2011".
    • Now compare it with the old one which is called out in Ref A of 201/11 and it will show you the old one is 234/08.

If you now compare this new NAVADMIN 201/11 with the previous one 234/08 you will see that only CTT and CTM have Sea/Shore Career Paths.  They both really remain the same at 36/36 (last column of message).  So we aren't affected at all.  Yea, the 1st Sea duty for CTM go's down, and CTT go up.  But that's about it....

  • rps65913

Greetings... New to all of this... My SR son is leaving Great Lakes / PIR on Friday and heading to Pensacola for "Spook" school. Another step..... more learning about military life...... Lot's of helpful information here so far-
    Have a great weekend!
  • glassdog

Thanks Craig.  He probably could have figured that all out, however he is stressed by the test that is coming up today.  Guess it is a big one.  He just needs to take a good deep breath, and stop and think.  I am so glad you are out here for us.  Great information and good laughs!
  • Pamela

Had a very nice weekend with our Sailor in Pensacola!  Picked him up around 7 Fri. and dropped him off around 12pm Sunday.  He looks great and is also very happy.

We stayed at the Ashton Inn Navy Blvd.  It was okay.  The room had a really funky odor.  We are pretty sure it was the air conditioner.  I had a candle with me so we kept it lit most of the time we were in the room.  It helped.  Sat. night wasn't very good.  Major party going on (Sailors) in the rooms next to us.  Hollering, banging of the doors etc.  Husband called front desk and the 2nd time he called her she called the cops.  They went to the room and the noise finally stopped around 1am or so.  The next morning we found the group of partiers right next to our car.  One kid had thrown up all around it and on my tires!!!!!  So gross.  They took $50 off of our bill at least.  Room was $99 night.  Would I stay there again?  I guess if I absolutely had to.  Not much to do in the area so will probably wait till my Sailor graduates A-school in Oct. to see him again.  We did go to the Museum and the lighthouse.  He's not a beach person at all, so that was out of the question to do.  He was bored by Sunday and was actually ready to go back to base and play his computer games!!!!  LOL!!!

  • Pamela

Sunshine73, Can you tell me what the criteria is for being able to go on to C-school?  My son is so hoping that he will be able to.  He's a very bright boy and is going to keep his grades up there.  Will this help?  Thanks
  • sunshine73

Hi Pamela~on our 1st visit to P'cola we asked to see a room at the Ashton and noticed a funny smell, too. We decided to stay at the Best Western up the road.lol  I have no idea how they determine who goes to C school. Several in his class got orders to Hawaii and they all have C school. All for different things.  My son's C school got changed already too.  I wish I could help you. So many others are going straight to their duty stations. I know of one at the top of their class going to C school and one that isn't. Maybe Craig knows?
  • Joy

When our son was in Pensacola, we stayed at the Navy Lodge at NAS.  It was nice with a little kitchenette.  It costs us around $50 per night.  We had no problems getting on base.  They gave us a pass at the gate.  I would recommend that as a place to stay in Pensacola.  We were visiting our son who was at Corry Station at the time.
  • CTmomof3

Oops sorry Craig. I thought when I put navy.mil that was enough as it was listed right there yesterday.

  • Pamela

Thanks ladies!  I figured there was no rhyme nor reason to why someone will go to C school and somebody else doesn't.  That's the Navy for you!  LOL!  We'll just have to wait and see.  He graduates A school Oct. 14th.

As far as the hotel goes, I will check into the Navy lodge next time.  We drove past it when we went to the museum.  It looked nice.  Now I have to figure out a time to see my other son in Goose Creek, SC (Charleston area).  He's in Nuke school and it's very intense right now.  Lots and lots of mandatory study time.  So, he's not sure when would be a good time to go visit.

  • navymom3

Pamela- thanks for the info on the hotel. We have stayed at the Navy lodge and it is nice inside. we will just need to make our reservations in plenty of time so we can stay there.
  • JapanMom

C school is specialized training.   So it depends on what their job will be at their first duty station.  To go into certian jobs you have to have the extra training before you do the job.

  • glassdog

Do any of you have sailors graduating from A school on 7/29?
  • navymom3

I have a question. My son is at Corry and needs to change his home of record. Do any of you know where he would go on Corry base to do that? He went where he was told they did it and they told him he can do it at his school. And he is in school and that is not it. Any help would be great. Thanks
