Debbie - Per the 3 state rule.  I actually don't have anything on that...yet.  I just know the rules, really, really well.  I've read it before because one of my guys got pulled over and I had to help him get out of it.  I bet it's in the Navy Legal binder, but I need to look for it...

  • Craig

boilermom - The clearance isn't the problem, it's the access.  They hand out the Top Secret clearances kind of easy.  However, to get the SBI access takes a really long time.  Go ahead in the discussion area and look for "Security Clearance Process".
  • navymom3

Craig- Thanks very much. I will let him know as he really wanted to pick Korea but his brother said it was bad.
  • Craig

    Seoul is bad?  Why?

Guam sucks...  Not much to do...

Kunia Hawaii is fun, but you can always go to Hawaii.  NIOC Hawaii always has billets.

Korea, you're overseas, exploring the world.  It doesn't mean you have to be in Korea your whole time.  Take a trip to Thailand, Japan, Philippines, China.  The worlds out there, explore it.  Unless he doesn't like experiencing new stuff, I'd go there in a heartbeat.  Even as a civilian, I went there in 2003 when I went to the Philippines.  I took 1 week there, and 2 week in the Philippines.  I wanted my kids to experience the different things the world has to offer.

Just curious, I bet his brother pulled in on a ship huh?  Ships screw up every port because of the amount of sailors, just like San Diego.  When the fleets out, then the town is awesome.

  • navymom3

His brother has not been there yet. I am not sure why he says it is bad. He has been to Dubai, Rome Italy, Turkey and Bahrain. I have been to Guam several times and ya it would suck. It is a small dirty Island. We lived on Oahu for 3 years so we are very familiar with Hawaii. And he wants to travel.
  • navymom3

Craig- you put the link to that hotel on here. Do they stay there until they find housing or is the military housing he would get? He said it is an air force base.
  • Craig

If you are married, you will get TLA to stay there.  Being single they will put you in the barracks are either Osan (Air Force base) or Yongsan (Army base). Osan is beautiful.

Craig, clockard, sunshine - I love me some rebels!  Corry Station is SO different from NAS - we are the ghetto of NAS but my son has loved his time there.  This is the group I come to when I really need info that pertains to my experience.  Love me those rebels!
  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Lol...I've never been called a rebel before!  I had questioned a few things also on the other site but was not blocked until I joined this one...thought it was a mistake until I read comments here.  I was so confused by the misinformation given out by others...
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Why is Corry Station the ghetto of NAS?  Older buildings?
  • Craig

CT's and IT's are totally different than Airdale (Sailors in the Air ratings). Corry is about 5 miles away and is ran by a different Commanding Officer. You can't compare the two.

What I didn't like about the other side is if you don't agree with the moderators, they shut you down. I don't beleive in censorship, is most cases. You guys have the right to say what you want. Heck, look at my other group here at N4M, the Chicken Ship, the group bonds because everyone has a voice and a thought (along with alot of funny stuff). The bottomline is don't censor people if you don't agree with them. Let everyone speak their peace. Heck, you might learn something from them.

Paula - Corry is really old. Alot of the buildings from the 1930's. The barracks are old. I think the area outside Corry is alot better than NAS, but it's still old and run down. They are actually in the process of updating some of the barracks to make them better, but it is really taking along time.

Most of these pictures are from the 1940's and 1950's...

I was going to complain about how hot it is. Then I realized that at least:
    1) It isn't 115 degrees.
    2) I'm not 5,700 miles from home.
    3) I'm not dressed in a full BDU uniform and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs.
    4) There is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today!
THANK YOU to all who serve in our fine military!! God Bless ALL.
  • mumziepooh

Paula - it really is old - it is build on an old airfield!  Look at the photos that Craig has posted - from the air you can still see the outlines of the old air strips.  When we were there, my son made it off base just in time - a lightening storm was coming thru and nobody is allowed to walk on base during one of those - too much metal in the ground!  My son is happy there - wants for nothing.  Likes the command.  Loves the Waffle House across the street!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

My son sent me a picture from inside one of his friends car yesterday   The temp read 133!!!!    No complaining about the heat!
  • navymom3

My son likes it at Corry better then at NAS. He was at NAS until he finished his ATT class. Even though he said he is in the Ghetto barracks just inside the gate. They are a bit more relaxed there he said.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

@navymom   When I visited my son at Corry Station in June, I wanted to stay at the Navy Lodge and visit the air museum and lighthouse.   My son wasn't thrilled about going there and got tense abuot it   so I changed to stay outside of Corry and went to the air museum and lighthouse when he had classes.  He also thought Corry was more laid back
  • navymom3

@Angie, Ya we stayed right outside Corry this time also. The Navy lodge was full. But we were only there one night to pick him up and bring him home for July 4th weekend. He then drove a car back so he would have wheels. He was able to walk out the hotel and meet us his barracks was that close. 1st building as we went in.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

My son told me about the rebar in the concrete (old air strips) and how they have orders to get inside immediately when there is lightening.

He hasn't been at Corry Station long but has already phased up to wearing civvies and allowed off base.  He classes up 25 July!  Yay!

  • CTmomof3

Paula when did he find about classing up? I haven't talked to my son in a few days.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

He told me yesterday evening, and the last time I spoke with him before that was last Saturday.  So it had to be early this week.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

I went to check out USS Chicken Ship group.  Man, that is funny stuff.  Sort of reminds me of how the 07/01/2011 PIR group got towards the PIR date.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Craig. Sailor (CTT) just got verbal orders...Yokosuka, Japan. USS Fitzgerald. What do ya think?
  • navymom3

Congrats Rory'smom, My son is CTM and filling out his dream sheet today. He is putting Korea and Japan on his. Wants to travel and he is single with no GF waiting at home. So we encouraged him to go where he wants to and see the world.
  • Fay

When does  the dream sheet get filled out? I am in the learning process !!
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

    Hi Paula ~ I'm Paula!

Don't know when dream sheet gets filled out - I'm new too.

  • navymom3

Paula and Paula they fill out the dream sheet after they start there actual A school. My son was given a list of places they could be stationed. Then they were to pick there 1-3 choice for each area. And number the areas for 1st to 3rd choice. They are overseas, stateside and sea duty. Mine got the list tuesday and had to fill it our today. He said another class gets orders before his class.

Sandy I remind my son to study hard also and get his homework done almost everyday. I know he appreciates it even though he may not say so. They can get so distracted easily there.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

    Thanks Navymom.
  • Fay

Appreciate the info navymom.  I guess you can call us the learning Paula's- LOL

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Hi all...don't get your hopes on the dream sheets. Our sons CTT group was never given the option to fill one out. He wanted to stay in the states as he is getting married but now everything will be on hold.
  • NavyMom4J

NavyMom3- I sure wish my son did not have a girlfriend (even though I really like her a lot) as it is driving him to come home to Denver as his first choice- I would rather he go "see the world" too!
  • CTmomof3

Dream sheets used to be filled out towards the end of the class. Am I understanding thats changed now too? Wonder what percent actually get any of their choices.
  • navymom3

I am lucky he has never been the one to always have to have a girl. Unlike his brother who doesn't like to be alone. I think he is just trying to find the right one. And it doesn't take long for him to decide. His best friend is a girl he tried to be BF with but they thought it would be better to be good friends. She joined the Army. She was suppose to join the Navy but after we moved her friend helped her choose the Army. She is getting stationed up out of New York. Big change for her being from Hawaii.
  • navymom3

CT mom- My son is currently 2nd in his class and planning on being 1st. So I hope he gets what he wants. We only will have to wait and see. The guy that is 1st wants washington so we are good there. He said no one in his class wants where he wants to go. Several want San Diego.
  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

My son was expecting to fill out a dream sheet but never happened. They just got orders given to them.
  • navymom3

Rorysmom- where did he get for his orders?

  • navymom3

Sandy- Yep fort drum. I told her she couldn't get any farther from Hawaii than there.
  • navymom3

She does not even have her drivers license yet. So I am sure she will need it. LOL
  • Craig

I know I've said this 1000's times, and you oldies will get tired of it, but....

For you newbies, you need to see the above item in the discussion area called

What is a CAC card reader? Why is it so important?

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ctratemoms/forum/topics/what-is-a-...

It will give your sailors an idea on what billets (places) they can go when they fill out their dream sheet. To me, I think it's really important.

navymom & sandy - What is the Fort Drum talk about? Just curious because my wife flies there in about 2 weeks for a business trip.

Navymom4J - I didn't realise you were from Denver. I actually work at Buckley. We need to get the families together and go to a resturant.... Who could pass up Casa Bonita?
  • navymom3

Craig- My sons best friend joined the Army instead of the Navy right after we moved from Hawaii. She got her orders a few weeks ago and it is Ft Drum. We had been talking about our sons having or not having  GF at home to worry about while traveling with the Navy.
  • Craig

rorys - Yokosuka is a fun place to be stationed.  I really don't know much about the USS Fitzgerald, except it was exposed to the radiation when the reactor in Fukushima Japan blew up.  They had to do a complete wash down.  Luckly, ship are designed for that so when you read about that part, it is nothing to worry about.   Unlike all of our helocopters that were used, everyone of them have now been destroyed.  Talking about alot of money...Wow!
  • Craig

navymom - I have told my nephew about not to have a GF while in "A" and "C" school, but he doesn't listen. My logic to him was "Why buy a horse, when there is riding stables all over the world"?

Hey, I'm a guy... What else could I say to him?
  • NavyMom4J

Craig- LOL you are too funny. Yeah he had a girlfriend before he joined and what can I say-???  At some point they don't listen to Mom anymore. HA HA . If he does get Denver - he would be at Buckley- is it a pretty good place for his first tour?  And yes- it would be great to get together for dinner - would be very cool to do that when my son is home so he can talk to you. My husband (his Dad) died going on almost 4 years ago so it would be good for him to have someone like you to talk with!
  • NavyMom4J

HA HA - Cosa Bonita- I used to work there one summer to make money for college! It is almost the same today as it was all those years ago!
  • navymom3

Craig that is exactly what we have told him. Wish his brother would have listened when he joined. He got married while in A school and then got divorced a couple years later when he started having to go out on ships. And it was only a 30 day tour. So much for sticking by him through thick and thin. LOL He is careful now. wish he had been then.
  • Craig

NavyMom4J - Here's what you do.  Ask him when then next time he will be home.  Then have him contact his Special Security Office (SSO) and have his tickets (clearance) passed here.  I can give him the entire tour of the Cryptologic facilities here.

Next time you talk to him, ask him if he has gotten a SID yet, and what it is. I'll talk to him on the high side (classified side) and tell him the process and the person he needs to contact.

  • Craig

Beleive it or not, we had a get together for one of my website last week, and we went there.  They wanted to go once they heard there sailors talking about the South Park episode about Casa Bonita.

     http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s07e11-casa-bonita

  • NavyMom4J

    Craig- What is SID mean?

Sorry- my lack of knowledge on Navy acronyms. He has a temporary Security ID for the training for A school right now, but not sure if it is his actual one yet.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

My son joined the Navy to get out of FL, but he got sent to P'cola for school...

He'll get out in the world soon enough.

Craig, I already sent him a card reader - he loves it.

He's always had a girl on his arm, but hopefully he will refrain for now...  I've got no control at this point.  Shoot me.

  • navymom3

I love it here in Florida. We are up by Jacksonville.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

I'm in Tampa Bay.  Florida is great but my son hates the sun and sand...
