Navymom3- totally agree as with my son home, he can't stand a messy bedroom and has everything folded perfectly ! Huge change!!  He also went for a run when he woke up too- NEVER would have done that before. The Navy is the  best thing that happened to him, and grew him up. I always said, what I struggled with for 2 years the Navy accomplished in a week at boot camp!  LOL
  • navymom3

Navymom4j- I think the best for me is how he is doing in school. He barely graduated high school cause he didn't like to turn in his homework. Yet in A school he is currently the top of his class. And plans on staying there. Said he was going to study this weekend. He never studied in high school yet tested good. The homework was his downfall. Said why do it when he knew the stuff already. LOL
  • NavyMom4J

Navymom3- Oh EXACTLY- My son too - He barley graduated high school as well - He had a problem seeing how the subjects would relate to his life- held no purpose  for him. He graduated A school with all A's and now says he loves to study! A total turn around and with it comes the confidence that doing well brings. They just needed to do something they have a passion for! Thank God the Navy is fulfilling this for them.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

navymom3 and NavyMom4J - Same here. I have a long list of miracles the Navy performed on my son.  The best was that he was assigned to the Head Crew while in Boot Camp - it was PERFECT sweet revenge for me.  The Navy succeeded where I failed.  I'm just happy that our Sailors turned out so well.

  • Craig

Woo-hoo!  Got my nephew into the NIOC Denver building to see what actually happens in the field for CT's.  He was in total shock on the equipment and the things that happen.  Glad to have made his day!

NavyMom4J - Have his go to the Travel Management Office (TMO) office to set up his House Hold Good (HHG) shipment.  He needs to tell them he wants a split shipment, 1 to Denver to his Home of Record, and one to his new duty station.  It's an easy thing to do, as long as he has his orders.  He can send an express shipment to San Diego which mean he will get it within days, but it is limited to 500 lbs.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

    That's great, Craig!
  • NavyMom4J

Super- thanks Craig! will definitely let him know.
  • navymom3

Paula mine actually volunteered for the head crew at bc. Said others kept not doing it and got tired of them getting punished so he did it. Then at a school he complained his roomie left hair on the floor in the bathroom. LOL
  • Briansmom

I'm confused as to why I was selected for this particular group. (?)
  • Craig

I bet you added yourself by mistake.   To make a comment, which you did, for the Boot Camp for Dummies thread you are required to add yourself.

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ctratemoms/forum/topics/boot-camp-...

I bet you clicked "add" and forgot to say "leave the group" after that.

We do that to see how many dummies we can find.  You now will receive your cap & gown.  You've graduated.... j/k...

We love all sailors here, and we love funnin' when someone opens themselves up to a joke.  You've got to admit, you opened yourself up real good.... btw:  I noticed you're in the boot camp group.  It's good you're doing research about your sailors future.  Bravo!  Is your sailor going to be a CT?  We talk about all types of things here, mostly about the CT stuff, and other stuff to make your sailor's life easy.

You're still in the rollercoaster ride in boot camp.  Just hang on, and enjoy the ride.  The boot camp PIR groups are awesome and alot of fun....

    Welcome again to the Navy!

  • calliecl

Navymom4J- I know. Talked to my son briefly. Said the storm was crazy. Hopefully Monday will be better but good weekend to be away from the base. Enjoy the weekend!
  • Briansmom

I don't even know what ct is. My sailor is going to nuke school.
  • Craig

Brians - You really can't tell the difference between a CT and a Nuke... They all come from the same mold.

    Here is a video too...

Just found out my son got his orders.  He was really hoping for stateside and particularly Denver, but instead is going to Misawa, Japan!!!! OMG!  He didn't get his "dream sheet" requests.  Told us that they were told they just pretty much throw them away.  Oh well, this will be a life experience for sure.  One of those he'll never forget. I asked him if he was happy, and he didn't know how to answer.  Told me he's nervous, but a little excited.  He's a CTR.  My other son who has wanted to go to Japan for a very long time (he's into hondas), is so jealous.  He's in the Nuclear Power school right now and is hoping when he's done in 2 years he'll be heading to Japan.  He already is talking about going to visit his brother at Christmas when he's home on leave.  That would be great, but would be very expensive I'm sure. So, unfortunately probably won't happen, unless we win powerball!  LOL!!!!

Does anyone know anything about the base in Misawa?  I know it's an Air Force base and is quite large.  I did do some reading about it yesterday.  Just curious if anyone has a daughter/son there now?  He graduates A-school on 10/14 and gets to come home for 21 days!  We're so thankful for that. His birthday is 10/30, so we will get to celebrate before he goes.  He's turning 19.  Going to take him to see his brother in Goose Creek.  They haven't seen each other for almost a year now.  One went to boot camp in Dec and the other in April.

Thanks for any info you can give!!!

I have a question hoping someone has the answer. My son is going to Yokosuka Japan and will stationed as shore duty. He was wondering what the BEQ is like and if the shore duty sailors use the same barracks as the sailors that have ship duty. One of the moms on the japan site said she son is on a ship and his barracks on shore have 4 beds aka 2 sets of bunk beds. Also he probably would only have a couple boxes to send over does he pay or will the navy send it over for him?
  • Pamela

Thanks, I just joined the group!  Hopefully I will get some answers.
  • navymom3

Pamela my son is going to be headed to Yokosuka Japan should be beginning of oct. His brothers are jealous cause they both love cars and he could care less. So they have been making a parts list for him to buy them.
  • NavyMom4J

I have heard it depends on how high in their class they are who gets what they wish a long as the need of the Navy is there as well.

  • NavyMom4J

All- does anyone know what the San Diego barracks are like? AS I mentioned he has been assigned to the USS Lake Champlain- missile guided cruiser- but will be in barracks while not having sea duty. Wondered what they were like. Wants to move his computer - TV and x box to them if appropriate.
  • glassdog

He is most definitely happy with Hawaii, but is having trouble finding people his age and interest to do things with.  It has only been 2 weeks and we told him it will all work out.  He is soon to be 27 and a history, movie buff.  He did go to the North Shore this weekend and I think he may try boogie boarding.  He has changed and it is all for the better.  He is very happy at this time with his choices made in the Navy.
  • glassdog

Tried to find a group of moms who have kids in Hawaii but I must have put it in incorrectly.  Does anyone know if there is a group?
  • Craig

  • navymom3

Glassdog I have seen an Oahu group and that is the Island your son is on.
  • sunshine73

Glassdog, if my son ever makes it to Hawaii, I think our sons would get along pretty well. I'll let you know when he finishes C school.
  • glassdog

Thanks to all of  you!  I know I can always rely on someone out there to help me!  I will check it out right away!

sunshine73 that would be great!  By that time maybe my son could be your sons sponsor when he arrives on Oahu.

  • mumziepooh

Sunshine - I was thinking that MY son would get along with glass dogs son, too! Huh...what a coincidence. Your son is going to Washington, remember? My son says so....
I know what you mean, glass, about the older guys having a bit of trouble finding people with common interests. He was really lucky to have sunshines son in Pensacola...now he just has to find a couple friends in WA. I told him the same thing-give it some time.
  • mumziepooh

About the dream sheet...my son was top of his class and didn't get anything on his dream sheet- timing.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

I find it really interesting who our sons end up hanging out with.  The NAVY really gives them such a diverse group.  My son came home this weekend all excited that he was now hanging out with what he called "seal drops"   They were going to be seals in bootcamp but for some reason dropped out and are now CTs of some form.  But they are all into a lot of physcial training something my son never was really into  but now he is doing marine corp martial arts, running a 5k and talking of training for a triatholon   His friends at home would of roll their eyes at him.
  • Pamela

Navymom3, I know, my other son is already talking about buying parts!!  He's been into Honda's since he was in 6th grade!  Japan has always been his dream.  Talked to him last night about his brother going and boy he is jealous!  Hopefully in 2 years when he's finished with Nuke school he'll be assigned there.  I have a nephew in Yokosuka right now.  He loves it!  He said he sleeps on the ship though.  He was happy to have a 3 day weekend, but not happy having to go back to the ship every night to sleep.

I'm still hoping someone on the Japan's group will let me know something about Misawa.  No one yet though.  Most kids seem to go to Yokosuka.

  • navymom3

I think for the orders part of my son's was luck. He said there were only 4 orders available 2 for the day class and 2 for his class. The day class got sub orders as they had volunteered for sub orders. And in his class he is the top of the class so he got to pick first from Yokosuka and Whidbey island washington. And since he wanted overseas he picked Yokosuka Japan. And the other guy wanted washington so it all worked out. But the other 6 in each class have to wait until there are more orders. They all grad next friday so hope there are more for them.
  • G'sproudmom

My son finally left Pensacola and is now doing his sere training. does anyone know if there is a page for Kaneohe. I'm wondering if it would be the Oahu page.

  • glassdog

Mumziepooh and Sunshine it's too bad we can't get these guys on the same base!  Hopefully they all find good friends to hang out with where ever they go!
  • navymom3

G;sproudmom- Yes that would be the Oahu group for Kaneohe.
  • Pamela

Thanks for the info!!  Will do!
  • Pamela

I started a Misawa group.  We'll see what happens!!
  • Craig

Pamela - Someone needed to start it...  There will be more.  Until then, time to play a song...

  • Pamela

Craig, too funny!!!!  Thanks for starting my day off with a huge smile!!!!
  • glassdog

Thanks Craig!  Made me smile today!
  • Craig

  • navymom3

Ismile- Welcome to the group. My son is also CTM. The navy actually furnishes all the linens that they need. Mine however wanted a 2nd pillow after he got there. Then cannot have anything with a hot plate in there room like coffee maker.

Your SR will first go to NAS Pensacola for his ATT class. That class is required before they can go to Corry station for there actual A school. They may have a short wait to class up for this class. Mean while they keep them busy with indoc, watch quals, pt and barracks duty. After they finish the ATT class then they will move over to Corry station. Again they may have a small wait for there class to begin.

Your SR will love pensacola and the beach. My son has been there since Mar 18th and will be graduating next friday from A school. He was told he would be there about 18 months but has gotten lucky with not have huge wait times on his class.

If you have any other questions just ask.

  • navymom3

I think they can have there car once they are phase 2 or 3. My son took a car back after he moved over to Corry. But he didn't have his drivers license until then. He had friends that had cars when he was at NAS. I would wait until phase 2 to visit. As then he can go off base during liberty time. But on phase 3 he can be gone all weekend and stay with you. They are only allowed to go so far from base. And where you and I both live is to far. That doesn't mean he can't come home he just has to get it approved first. Mine has been home twice. We are just outside Jax.
  • navymom3

Usually takes about 2 weeks for each phase. The faster they get there stuff done the faster they phase up. And they have to stay out of trouble also.
  • Craig

I SMILE - I just posted some picture in your discussion area above....
  • navymom3

My son does his final test tommorrow in his A school then grads on friday. He is studying hard tonight to make sure he gets it all right. He did great on his final troubleshooting tests. Still top of his class. Wish him luck on the test. I know he will do great.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

@navymom@    Julie  I know he will do great but thinking of him today and wishing him the very best

  • navymom3

WooHoo! I just heard from my son and he has completed his last test and is the Honor Grad for his class. I am so proud of him. Heading to Pcola in the morning for graduation.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

navymom  so proud of your son!!   congrats to you too!!   Hug the stuffing out of him

  • navymom3

Thanks everyone. We are so proud of him to go from not passing the run yet graduating on time and not getting to march to Honor Grad. We are so proud. Now he can do the run in 12:55 he said and has 13:30 to do it in.
  • cinder

Congrats on how well your son did.
  • amberrose

Congrats on your son's accomplishments navymom3!
