My son will be arriving in December for CTT school. Are you saying he's going to be waiting a while to start?

  • CeliaSews

Does it matter if they are CTT 4 yr or 6 yr? My son is a 6 yr AEF CTT.

  • cinder

It took my son about 3 mos. to school up for CTT A school.

The best advice I can give to all new sailors is this:  KEEP COPIES OF EVERYTHING!  Do not rely on the Navy to have copies....They do lose stuff.  Your career is your responsibility.  Service records are now kept electronically and you can access this via BOL.  It's a good idea to access this periodically to make sure everything is there, i.e. all evals with no breaks in between.  There is nothing worse than being selection board eligible and having things missing from your record.  If you don't have a copy to submit...you're screwed.  On that note, I'm attaching a helpful file.  Moms (and dads) might want to forward this to your Sailors.  (i hope this works...)

Very nice lady Hamilton you must be very proud.
  • salpetty

Ha!  That is so awesome!  That's a great example (I know it's your daughter's...you should be a proud momma). It's a great example because it's quantitative..shows numbers!!!  Numbers of people supervised, etc.  Good job YN2!

  • Craig

That is pretty sh*t hot!.... Those are some great marks!

  • Craig

Is she worried about making E6 on this exam?

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Talked to our CTT earlier and he was approached after only 2weeks on the ship about being an honor guard representing the ship. After reading all the previous posts would this help on his evals?
  • salpetty

YES!  Abosolutely.  How awesome for him :)

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Thanks salpetty..he hasn't made a decision but I would love to encourage him to do so if it would be good for his career

Sorry I havent been around lately   On November 5th at 1 am we had a major house fire caused by a fire in our fireplace.  Everyone got out safe although it will be months before we can get back in our home.   The insurance company has leased a house for us and our son is coming home for Thanksgiving.  Its not going to be easy to walk him through his childhood home.  He actually agrued with us that we should call the Red Cross and have him get leave.  We knew that wasnt necessary.

When I ran from the house I was able to grab his bootcamp graduation photo.  You also think about what you would grab nearest and dearset to you if this every happened.   I guess that photo was pretty darn important to me

Ive been off work since the fire, trying to work with the insurance, supplying the new house, figuring out what can be saved and what cannot and talking with contractors.   Ive also been keeping busy with a group of military moms who help me send care packages overseas to those that are deployed.

The project was well underway when the fire occurred and I haven't dropped the ball.  However the next step is collecting recipes and I hope you can help me.   Ive attached a form with some directions   Please take a moment to read it and if you can help I would really love it!

Angie - It is sad to lose most everything.... Prayers with you....

  • navymom3

Momofsailor-Sometimes it takes several times with the quotas so low. My oldest took it 3 times for e5. He is AT and there are lots of them.

  • Craig

  • mumziepooh

Wow, Angie!  Glad you got out safely and I hope you have a good visit with your son!

  • navymom3

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

My sailor is home for the weekend and it is so nice to have him here.

  • navymom3

This is my sailor that will be going to Japan in January. Tommarrow is his 21st birthday and since he will be heading back to Pcola at noon we had his birthday cake and favorite meal to night. Made BBQ ribs and homemade mac and cheese along with his favorite cake Cheesecake. Searched the internet for a mac and cheese recipe and ended up using one that was on the noodle box. But used half velveeta half sharp cheddar cheese. It turned out great!

  • momoffour(Ship 11 div 119)

Great pic of your son! Can't think of a better meal combo! Happy 21st to him!

  • navymom3

Thanks mom of four. He did enjoy it. We have to make cookies today also so he could take them back for his friends. We broke into that 5lb Hershey candy bar he won and made chocolate chunk.

  • Craig

Here is what the cake will look like tomorrow when he's 21....

I looking for a compact printer/scanner, copier for my son that he can use in his room (barracks). It should be wireless and cheap on ink. Every time he has to print something he has to go somewhere else to do it, a real pain. Any suggesstions?

  • Craig

CRF230 - You really need to buy a Epson printer.  There ink is easily cloned and you can get the ink soooo cheap on ebay.   I have used an epson for years  just for that reason.

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l13...

Just go to the Epson clearance center, and look at the "all-in-one" printers.  Look at the 600 series (or even the 300 series are awesome) they are really good printers that are wi-fi.  Don't by them in the store because the clearance center has them sooo cheap....

    Thanks for the info Craig.

Craig, my son was home for two weeks and worked one week at his recruiters so he can get the 5 days leave back. Well, this guy had him "working" some days 8-9 hrs. Then kept blowing him off about getting/signing the paperwork needed. He lies, won't return phone calls, says he'll show up and doesn't. It's a 40 minute drive for my son and he sat in his car 3hrs waiting. I could keep going..on and on about this guy. So, my son reported to his new duty station Monday with zippo paperwork. What can he do? Since it's a superior he doesn't think he can do anything. It's so wrong for some guy to screw him out of leave. My mom ma bear claws are out but I know I can't do a thing. Suggestion I can pass along?
  • NavyMom4J

CTmomof3: That is just horrible !My son's time home doing work at the recruiters was quite the opposite-  was given no problems at all . Unfortunately I am not sure what can be done about it. i know the first recruiters office he went to when he joined was really bad, and he ended up switching to another one in town which was so much better. I hope they help him out .

  • navymom3

CTmomof3- I would be mad also. That is kinda shitty of him not to sign any paperwork saying he worked for him. I think I would go in and have it sign it for me. My son will be home on the 10th for his leave before heading to Japan. Not sure if he wants to work at the recruiters or not. Since he won't be able to come home for a while he may not.

  • navymom3

Clockard- I know the sailor needs to take care of his own stuff. But it would be tempting. LOL Hopefully he can get it taken care of with his new command.

  • CTmomof3

I mentioned to him tonight to ask his sponsor what to do and also ask about christmas leave. He told me neither of these things have been brought up. I'm like...ya they won't you need to tell/ask them. He doesn't know yet who his chain of command is. I still think he has the " boot camp" fear and doesn't feel he can ask things he just does what he's told etc.
Oh I know my hands are tied. I'd like them tied around someone's neck though. This recruiter was so nice before. Not sure what his problem is. But it's up to my child now.
  • navymom3

Lady congrats on your daughter making 1st class. That is a great accomplishment.

  • mumziepooh

Congrats, Lady!  Great way to celebrate!  lol......son hasn't had anything PO like yet - but he was just frocked last week 3rd class.  We will see!

CTmomo - his sponsor is the right place to start.  I understand the bootcamp fear and the not knowing.  Has he done his indoc yet?  It takes a little while for them to get their feet beneath them.  As for Christmas, he needs to ask soon so he can put in for it!  He has to have a chit approved.

  • Craig

All - rumor has it all orders are now frozen till next fiscal year because of funding issues.  For CT's only, they will only write orders for mission critical places.  We shall see if this is the case or just rumor in the next coming weeks.  Stay tuned...

(ie they have done this in the past, so I think it very accurate)

  • momoffour(Ship 11 div 119)

When does the fiscal year start for the Navy?

  • Craig

All, just remember, I said "rumor".   So, "I cannot confirm or deny" that statement. See now I'm talking Navy!   But what has my track record been?  Just saying...

sunshine - I wouldn't worry about him not being home for x-mas.  He will be home (my thought).  Per the orders, if they have already been written, then the orders usually will go through, since the funding has already been obligated.  However, anyone with new orders will probably be in for a bit of a wait.

momoffour - Fiscal year start Oct 2012.  This actually may end up being really good for these guys.  You just need to understand the big picture and sometimes it works out to the best. I just feel sorry for the poor sailors on ships right now.  Geez, if you had verbals to Hawaii, then your probably not going now.  The Navy has done this before.  Heck it did it to me when I retired.  So, it very real....

btw:  why is your dog so small?  Is it a Yorkshire Terrier ?

  • navymom3

Craig so if this is so. If they already have written orders to say Japan he will still go as expected then. My son grads next friday from c school. But still no plane ticket for Japan. He said he is suppose to get it the day before he graduates.

  • momoffour(Ship 11 div 119)

LOL! Can you is tell that I am pretty computer illiterate! I have no idea why it is that small, he is a  50 lb beagle LOL! Oct huh? I was wondering about my kids deployment but it is really not under the Navy so probably as a mom, I am wishful thinking. I feel really bad if that is correct and they have dream orders! I wonder if they are gearing up for the auto budget cuts to the defense dept and that is why are freezing the orders?

  • Craig

navymom - It sounds like he will be set to go.  Those orders should have been funded on the OPTAR funds at the beginning of thisFY.  Now those funds are liquidated.  There isn't anymore for.  Only those that are required will be sent (ie SEALS).   Again, this is rumor, just a guess....

  • navymom3

    thanks craig.

  • navymom3

Not sure if you have read this before but a dad posted it on another group as it was on his son's FB page. Thought I would share it.

A Sailors Christmas ~ Twas the night before Christmas, and he lived in a crowd, In a 40 man berthing, with shipmates so loud. I had come down the exhaust stack with presents to give, And to see just who in this rack did live. I looked all about, and a strange sight I did see, No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stockings were hung, just boots close at hand, On the bulkhead hung pictures of far distant lands. He had medals and badges and awards of all kind, And a sobering thought came into my mind. For this place was different, it was so dark and dreary, I had found the home of a Sailor, this I could see clearly. The Sailor lay sleeping, silent and alone, Curled up in his rack, dreaming of home. The face was so gentle, the berthing in such good order, But not how I pictured a United States Sailor. Was this the hero whom I saw on TV? Defending his country so we all could be free? I realized the families that I've seen this night, Owed their lives to these Sailors who were willing to fight. Soon round the world, the children would play, And grownups would celebrate a new Christmas Day. They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year, Because of the Sailors, like the one lying here. I couldn't help but wonder how many lay alone, On a cold Christmas Eve, on a sea far from home. The very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees and started to cry. The sailor awakened and I heard a rough voice, "Santa, don't cry, for this life is my choice. Defend the seas this day, the peace do I keep." The sailor then rolled over and drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I kept watch for hours so silent, so still, And we both shivered from the night's cold chill. I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark night, This guardian of honor so willing to fight. Then the Sailor rolled over and with a voice soft and pure, Whispered, "Carry on Santa, it's Christmas..All is Secure"
