Fay, we are doing similar for our son at Monterey.  Note giving permission needs to identify the vehicle and be notarized.  He will need proof of insurance and a copy of the registration. Your son will then need to go to the "gatehouse" and get a permit.

  • Fay

i have been told that he is going to have to have insurance in the state that he is in- so I plan on putting his name on the title and letting him get insurance in FL.  Should i just put him on our insurance or let him get his own in the other state?

  • cinder

My son got his own insurance through USAA.

  • CRF230dad

USAA is awesome and gives them crazy cheap insurance rates that can't be had anywhere else. Also if they call USAA before they leave on deployment their insurance premiums will be reduced significantly while they are gone.

  • CRF230dad

Congratulations to my son and all the CTTs that finished C school today.

    Go Navy!

  • Fay

    Congratulations !!!!

  • cinder

CRF have you heard from your son yet?  I have been waiting for my son to call or text.

  • CRF230dad

cinder, yes I sent him a text and then he called me. He said he starts V3 training next week but not everyone got it. Some are starting shipboard-ops and others are starting SSDS. He said they are all splitting up.

  • navymom3

Congrats to all the CT's that graduated today.

Fay my son took a car to Corry with him. We just added him to our insurance but we live in Florida. It was cheaper then for him to get it on his own. He may be able to still be on your policy I would call your agent and ask how that would work.

  • CRF230dad

    It's official!

  • proudmom

CRF230dad is that just a picture, if not where did you get it?

  • cinder

Hooyah! My son texted me he said he was top of his class.  I just texted him to see what his next training will be.

  • sunshine73

    CRF230Dad that is awesome!

  • cinder

My son told me he has shipboard-ops next.

  • cinder

Why do you think they split them up and have everyone doing something different?

  • Craig

yea CRF, where did you get it.  It looks awesome!

When we were at Chicago for boot camp graduation there were several surrounding hotels that had special discounts for the navy families. Does anyone know if Pensacola has the same deals?  Want to visit our son and be close to the base, but a discount would be the cherry on top!

  • sunshine73

Fay, some of the condos on Perdido Key offer military discounts. they are about a 15 minute ride away but are on the beach. I used vbro.com. We also stayed at the Best Western Blue Angel which has military and book ahead online rates which were better than the military ones. The BW is about 10 minutes from Corry.  I do not have any experience with staying at the hotels right there by Corry. The Quality Inn is within walking distance and one of my friends said if you stay on the side away from the club, it was fine. Lots of people also stay at the Navy Lodge which is about 10 minutes away and on NAS. My son didn't want to stay there because he wanted to get away from being on base. We went 4 times and stayed at 3 condos and the BW.   we stayed twice at the Grand Caribbean Condo. Southern Shores realty gave discounts and cheaper prices than listed on their website.

When I visited my daughter at Corry, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Gulf Front on Pensacola Beach.  Not too far and a nice area.  I would not stay anywhere in the neighborhood of Corry.  It is not a nice place.  My daughter stayed the weekend in the hotel with me and she enjoyed getting away.  As Sunshine said, Perdido is great too.  Very pretty area and very close by.

  • salpetty

Happy Mothers Day to all you moms who are missing your kids today.  Hopefully you were able to enjoy today knowing that your Sailors are out there making you soooo proud.

  • Fay

    Thanks sunshine73

  • Fay

    Thanks salpetty

Here is a pic of my son getting his blue jacket of the quarter award. We are so proud of him. He has only been in Japan since January.

  • tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204)

    congratulations.  A great achievement.

  • Craig

I love the award.  I love the background of all the wiring too.  A true CTM!

    Woo-hoo for CTM's.

  • navymom3

Craig he was also suppose to get his e4 yesterday. He said he had more pics he will post tomorrow.

  • salpetty

Wow, navymom3!  That has got to be the most bitchin award I've ever seen!!!!  Bravo Zulu to your son!

  • cinder

Wow what an accomplishment is such a short amount of time.

  • proudmom

navymom3 Congratulations on your son's award!!!

  • Craig

navymom - Once he puts that "crow" on, then he's got it made.   Next time you talk to him ask him what his NEC is.  I'm curious just because I was a CTM....

  • sunshine73

Navymom3, Congratulations to your Sailor!!! Woots!

  • navymom3

Thanks everyone we are so proud of him.

@craig I believe it is 9225 if I remember right. But the ship he was given there doesn't have that equipment on it so he had some on the job training when they went out. He has even gotten his aloft training done. Here he is aloft. You like that view from on top the ship?

  • tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204)

Congratulations.  He has been working very hard.  You all did well in raising such a fine young man/sailor!

  • Craig

What good with him knowing the AN/SSQ-137 is we also sold it to the British.  Your son can do a PEP exchange duty (swapping US sailors for British sailors) billets. PEP duty would be the best route he can do after he serves his time in Japan.  With him being guaranteed of choice of coast he's got a good shot at it.

Any CTTs or other rates do a tour at Naval Station Everett Washington? My son is thinking of changing his dream sheet but hears it rains all the time, is boring unless you are an avid outdoorsman who likes to hunt/fish 24/7. Anybody had duty there? He would be much closer to home but four years there might not be worth it. Thanks!

  • navymom3

CRF230dad my oldest is an AT2 and his first duty station was Whidbey Island Washington. He liked the command but it did rain a lot. He complained about the rain and gloominess He was there 3 years and says he does not want to go back. He is at NAS JAX now. He chose it cause it was close to home back then also. My CTM chose overseas first he is in Yokosuka, Japan. Now my oldest wants to go there also.

So my husband and I leave tomorrow to make our annual pilgrimage from California to Indianapolis for the Indy 500 next sunday.  This year we added two tickets to our seats in the event we ever want to bring someone or just have extra room.  Well it’s a good thing we did because my daughter just made last minute plans to join us for the weekend!!!  Thank God we were able to find a plane ticket from Norfolk to Indy at the last minute.  I am beside myself and now I can’t concentrate on work!

I have a question. I believe this topic has been discussed previously; however, it would be helpful to receive feedback from this forum to refresh my memory. My son graduated from boot camp in March and went to Pensacola for the 1st phase (beginning course) of CTM training. He is not at Corry Station - he is at a location with initials (something like NTTA). He was told informally that he would begin school today (5/21), but it turns out that he didn't. He says that he will not know for sure when his training begins until 4:30 a.m. the first day of class. This information sounds odd to me. Is this the standard procedure? I am wondering how long he will wait to begin class. He had such great momentum going after boot camp and he seems a little discouraged now. He was assigned a job until class begins.

  • navymom3

harpist mom- I have a CTM and he arrived in Pcola last March. When they get there they are at NAS Pcola for there pre class of ATT. They could let him know at 430 in the morning but they usually know a few days out. He was probably bumped by a fleet returnee. ATT class is a basic electronics class. After they finish that class they will move over to Corry for his actual CTM class. Again there will probably be a wait before it starts. Mine waited only 2 weeks once he got to Corry but his roommate same rate and ATT class waited 6 weeks.  All together my son was there 9 months  but that included c school. I would have him find out when the next ATT class starts and keep checking the list. A lot of rates do the ATT class first. If you have any more questions let me know.

  • harpist mom

Thanks for the info navymom3. I understand that the first course is basic electronics and the sailor is transferred to Corry Station for the next class. It seems like a long time to wait for the first leg of training; however I understand what you wrote about getting bumped.

  • sammy1990

Pls tell him not to be discouraged. the unwritten military motto of "hurry up and wait" is something they all have to get used to. the navy is a huge network of many many moving parts...each part with a "weight" of importance. it all works out in the end, though not always as desired or planned. they make the most of it and press on. they are being paid! they can work on their volunteer ribbon! They can research their future college courses by talking to fellow sailors. just my rambling thoughts, lol.
  • Craig

Woo-hoo, just got back from my daughters boot camp graduation in San Antonio.  The only traitor in the family, not Navy, not a CT...  But I'll still give her a pardon ~ha....  You can't always be the best (Navy & being a CT)....someone has to be the black sheep in the family....~ha....

  • navymom3

Craig congrats to you and your daughter. You all look so happy. That is a great picture.

Sammy you are right there are lots of things he can do while waiting. Mine liked to fish and he worked on his volunteer award and got yeoman certified.

  • sammy1990

lol, congrats. I look at it as another service to learn all about! I get, ":::chuckle:::...mom, that must be an air force term. in the navy we...."

    Was there a fly over?
  • cinder

Congratulations Craig you all look so happy and proud,
