craig - awesome photo.  Congrats to you all.

  • sunshine73

Congrats Craig. You have a beautiful family.

  • Craig

Sammy - Yep, they had a fly over.  It was awesome.  I tell you, that barracks in San Antonio just sucked.  Really, really old.  I've never been on a Air Force base that had such bad quarters.  Here is what the inside the their boot camp barracks looks like... (just to show you how well our sailors have it).

Sorry, didn't want to flood Air Force info, just wanted to say I truly think our guys living conditions are way much better....

Much like the Navy "Ships", these couches have never been sat on.  They are there for decoration.  The only time you can sit on them is when you wear your "blues".  The only time you wear your blues is in the 8th week, and since you are wearing your blues you are out on liberty and not sitting in the barracks, thus these couches have never been sat on.  Oh, I love out they mentally show these boot camp guys that they are not worthy enough to sit on furniture.  btw:  The couches are 4 inches from the wall, no more, no less....  I bet the guys boot camp has their 4 inch gap a little bit smaller...~ha....

And this drinking fountain has never been used either.  They use canteens and fill them in the bathroom sinks because they don't want to clean these.  Man, these guys would make great sailors, the sailors do the same thing.  ~ha

Does anyone know how many test they may take during schooling for CTN?

  • momoffour(Ship 11 div 119)

It was 20 tests when my son went to CTN school. I remember it well because I did a mental countdown lol!

  • sammy1990

I am thinking 23 or 24 now for ctn. my son said there is a testing sheet that has slots for each test. your sailor can count the spots.
  • cinder

Congrats on your son coming home for a visit. Bet he is excited to get orders.
  • navymom3

Congrats I Smile on getting to see him this weekend. Enjoy you time and good luck on the orders.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Sailor has advanced! He is CTT2! This is the kid I could barely get thru high school! He left for boot camp May 2010. Can't believe it's already 2 years. He's in the middle of a 6-month deployment right now and his wife and him are handling it amazingly...

  • navymom3

Congrats Rorysmom- My Ct was like that also in High School. I think he was just bored in high school. Because in the Navy he has excelled beyond any expectation. He said if he had gotten paid to be in high school he would have done his homework. LOL

  • harpist mom

My son finally began class today after waiting in Pensacola almost 3 months since boot camp! I am happy for him!

  • cinder

Yay to classing up and advancements!  My son hated high school too and would never do homework and is doing great in the Navy.  Go Navy!

  • harpist mom

My son just called and told me that he was selected as class leader! He is happy about having this position.

  • CRF230dad

19 more days til P-Cola. Can't wait to see my son...

  • cinder

    Lucky, have a wonderful time.

  • sunshine73

Congrats to all the advancements and good things for our sailors this week! Mine got good news on his advancement too! CTR3! Woots!

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Wow! What a great group! I just have to laugh about those who didn't do well in high school! I agree with the just bored thing and my son has always thought he knew everything anyway lol! .....I had one teacher tell me that if my son just put his name on a piece of paper and turn it in, he'd give my son 2 points...

  • navymom3

Congrats I smile. Enjoy your time with you sailor this weekend.

Sunshine congrats to you and your sailor on advancing.

  • sunshine73

Thanks! My sailor is also home for his best friends wedding so it is an exciting time around here. It has been a great holiday weekend so far. I Smile enjoy your sailor. CRFdad, enjoy P'cola. We were there last Memorial Day weekend. I don't know if it matters to you but it was gay pride weekend on P'cola Beach. If it does, you might want to check before you make plans. We visited the outlet malls in Orange Beach and only went to P'cola Beach for sunday brunch at Crabs. It was crowed but we didn't see anything out of the way. It was a great time.

  • dereksmom21 Norfolk CTT

Hi all I am new to this site- My son his going to be going through PIR on 6/1/12 then he will be flying to Pensacola to do his training.  He is going to be a 6yr CTT.

My question is what is the electronics policy for sailors just arriving at Corry/NAS.  I didn't know if he could bring his lap top with him.  He is already planning on bringing his cell phone though.

    Thanks!

  • cinder

Welcome my son is a 6 yr. Ctt too. They can bring their laptop. Expect your son to be there for at least 1 and a half years. Mt son has been there since March 2011.
  • dereksmom21 Norfolk CTT

Cinder--Thank you for the info- How long did it take your son to start his classes and do they start off at Corry or NAS.  I think he spends most of his training at Corry but I didn't know where he would start his training at.

    Thanks!

  • cinder

They start at NAS for ATT school then go to Corry. It took about 3 months for that class to start. Once he got to Corry about another 3 mos. wait for A school. My son just finished C school and is now shipboard ops.
  • cindyship11div168

Hi to all, new to this group and not sure what I am doing! Thought I had joined it already but maybe I was on a different discussion area. My son like dereksmom21 will be headed to Pensacola after PIR Friday :)  I talked to him today and he is still worried because his security clearance still hasn't gone through.  I did some checking and for what I could find does it take longer for CTT?  As his Mom I am so excited for him.

  • tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204)

I don't know the details of what type of information the Navy needs to gather for the various clearances - I do know that even for the same type of clearance it can vary from one person to another.  If the investigators need more info (names, phone numbers, etc.) they will contact your SR - otherwise, unfortunately, all you can do is wait.  It will all work out.  If his clearance isn't in by PIR I am sure the Navy has a lot of these and have contingency plans.  It just would be nice if it all fell into place.

  • tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204)

navymom3 - how do I figure out which CTI group my son will be going to?  Is it based on his test scores - or is it after BC that he gets assigned.  I know when he was here we were trying to figure it out - he didn't seem to know.

  • navymom3

cindyship I would not worry about his security clearance yet. Most have not gotten them all done before PIR for the CT's. He can do the pre class of ATT without his clearance. If it still isn't done by the time his actual a school class starts then they can get a special one to attend class or put them in the next class. They don't normally start class right after they get to Pcola there is always a wait time. And that can vary from a week to several months.  But they keep them busy if not attending class.

Tatmom4rc not sure what you mean by CTI class. We don't normally have to many CTI on here and I don't know much except they learn a language. There might be a CTI group I will look for ya.

  • navymom3

tatmom here is the link to the CTI group.

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/cti

I hope they can answer your question.

  • navymom3

Tatmom go to this link and in the first paragraph it says how they get there language.

    http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/cti.htm

  • cinder

My son didn't even know that he had his clearance until he finally asked. Lol.
  • cinder

If you look at the discussion Craig wrote above you will good knowledge of the process.
  • sunshine73

tatmom, they did my son's security clearance interviews after he got to Corry. He had been there a couple of weeks when they came around. He got his badge the next day. I wouldn't worry about it right now. It takes a while to class up sometimes too. They cannot go into the classroom complex without their badge so it will all be taken care of soon.

  • tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204)

Debbie, sunshine73,cinder and navymom3 - thank you so much for your information.  It all has been helpful

  • CRF230dad

cindyship & dereksmom, Welcome to the Navy family. It looks like your two sons are shipmates. Do they know one another? My son is a CTT 6y also along with cinder's son are at Corry. They are at the at the same phase although in different classes. Mine is doing V3 now and will get shipboard ops after. My son arrived at NAS June 1, 2011. If all goes as planned he should be done and ready to ship out to his 1st duty station by mid November. That is if he gets orders. My best advice is tell your boys to study hard and stay out of trouble. There are a lot of distractions around P-Cola. If they they are not 21 beware of the under age drinking. They come down hard. With things being what they are now in this economy and the military downsizing it doesn't take much to lose your clearance or get a ticket home. Craig who is a regular here is an ex-Navy CTM and can answer nearly any question you can think of. I highly suggest you go to http://www.navydep.com/forums/ (Craig's website) and register. There you will find all the information on CTT schooling and much more. If you do facebook check out the Navy's Cryto page. https://www.facebook.com/navycryptologyandtechnology

    Welcome aboard!

  • CRF230dad

Two weeks til P-Cola. Can't wait to see my boy!!!

  • harpist mom

I was in Pensacola this weekend and spent some time with my son! It was so great to see him. He finally "classed up" after waiting almost 3 months since PIR for his first CTM course. He was designated class leader on his first day. I wasn't sure what class leader was - he told me that he marches the class members to class and is the liason between the teacher and students. I am proud of him! My husband and i were impressed with the Naval base - we had not been there before.

We visited Fort Morgan while we were in FL and my son really enjoyed the special memorial day presentation there that day. It took so long to ride the ferry to Dauphin Island that we arrived at Ft. Gains just as it was closing.

  • dereksmom21 Norfolk CTT

CRF230dad-- Thank you for the info- Yes my son is also going to be a 6yr CTT and is looking forwarded to getting started with the next step after PIR. He is already 21yrs old so don't have to worry about underage drinking.  My son is really focused on his Navy career so I don't think he will have any problems with getting into trouble - he is just not that kind of kid

What stuff will they need for there rooms that is not already furnished and can they bring there cell phones & laptops with them on the airplane from PIR?  Did your son fly out of O'Hare or Midway airport?

    Thanks for your help!

  • cinder

My son flew out of OHare and we brought him his lap top and sent him his game station. By the way my son really likes what he is learning. When they get there tell them to volunteer it is a lot of fun. Once they phase up to 2 they can wear civilian clothes but beware they usually have lost weight and won't fit their pants. There is a lot of wait time between schools just remind him that this is easiest time he will be in the Navy.
  • Fay

Went to see our sailor this last weekend.  Was so great to see him.   He has such a sense of Pride enstilled in himself that it just filled my heart with joy.  I truly believe that he has found his calling in life.  I am glowing with pride for him.

  • cindyship11div168

Hello to everyone.  OK, almost seems odd posting here for our next chapter after PIR. And also seeing the group for our PIR 6-01-12 with the word ALUMNI!  My son arrived this evening in Pensacola  and I think being processed now.  If I ask silly questions... bare with me.  Glad to be here and hope to learn alot!

  • cindyship11div168

Have to add this ;)   Great to see a familiar name here!  dereksmom21  Hi Lady!  As soon as "my D" saw me yesterday he asked about "your D"!  Gave him the update and he was glad!

  • tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204)

does any one know how much time a sailor gets after PIR to acclimate )aka sleeping and getting organized) to A school once they get here

  • harpist mom

My son waited almost 3 months at Pensacola after PIR and prior to beginning A school. He was given two or three different job assignments to fill in the time before starting school. He is currently at  NATTC and they do not have much freedom. He said they are allowed off base without a "buddy." After his initial course is complete, he will go to Corry Station for the second phase of A school.

  • harpist mom

I intended to say "they are not allowed off base without a buddy."

  • Craig

harpist - Are you saying that he needs a buddy in phase two liberty? or are you saying even in phase 3 he needs a buddy?  I can't imagine anyone needing a buddy in phase 3.

Geez, what happens to your love life if him or his buddy picks up on a gal in Pensacola beach?  Your love life would be kind of weird with another person there.   But the more that I think of it, it could be kind of fun!  Just don't end up in the middle!  Talking about a "poker" face....  j/k

Here is a pic of NATTC (click on the picture to make bigger)
