I would feel alot better if my sailor would have dated her for 8 months also! I think whats actually driving this rush is the fact that he is being assigned to Hawaii for the next 3 years and they can't handle the separation so they had to rush around and get married so she could go. I just hope they don't go and throw a baby in the mix...! :)

I totally agree, darrad! I could have written those words myself. I got the impression that the girl was putting pressure by implying that she was not willing to wait around - didn't like long-distance relationships. Three weeks is just not long enough to get to know someone.

KC's Mom- yes- we just have to let go ... and support them when they make these decisions for their lives... I advise, I express how I feel- and then let go. It is hard being a Mom ! I am happy he is happy- and leave them to God.

Hi, I have a question, pls... My son is going to CTR school, called A school, what is C school for CTR? is it a specialty school that takes the training a step further? Just wondering how all this works ! If so, how do you get to go to C school? Does everyone if they want to after A school ? thanks !

I love doing it Sue.... CT's are where it's at.....My son is almost done with his time in the Navy. The civilian companies are already interviewing him just waiting for him to get out....
Arkansas - A lot of people don't understand the meaning of "A" and "C" school. So let me explain and give you a little background about what a "C" school is.
Lets say you want to learn to be an auto mechanic, that school would be considered an "A" school. You are learning the basics. Now suppose you want to be an auto mechanic that specializes on Corvettes. Well you still need the basics, but now you need another school to learn Corvettes. That school would be like a "C" school because now your not just a plain old auto mechanic, now you are a specialist.
Same as the Navy. You learn the basics in "A" school, then you go to a "C" school to learn a special skill. When you go to a "C" school, you are assigned a Navy Enlisted Code (NEC) that tells everyone what your specialty is. To find all the schools offered, you can go to this link:
http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/nec/NECOSVolII/Docu...
To give you an example how this works, lets use CTR for an example. Wait for that PDF to load. Use Ctrl-F and search for CTR. Keep scrolling down and look for "Source rating CTR" (remember electronics has the letters CTR in it so you will get a lot of hits). The main groups of CTR start about 9105, but they're (CTR) throughout the whole manual. You can even see that CTR's are doing OS, ET, and other rating jobs. These NEC number (four digit example 9105 or 9131) are always listed in numerical order.
Does that make sense?

Hi, tks so much Craig, great info, so appreciate it !

Joy - The military is downgrading everything, however, intel continues to grow. Intel is where it's at. We always need intel.
Companies must still follow the sequestration rules, and they can't hire until the new fiscal year comes about. This is the same way it been done for 35 years with the budgets. They tell us in March that there is no more money, so we must hold all purchase orders until October (new fiscal year). Then when 1 October comes around we order everything. The money runs out again in March, we are told to hold our orders until October, then purchase everything again in October..... the cycle continues.... So yes, my son will need to wait until October to get hired, but when that comes, it will be pushed through since he has everything already submitted. He is just in a "hold" pile. He is keeping all his options open, and may stay in the Navy, but I hope he doesn't. There is just too much money to be made on the outside as a CTN.

In the discussion forums there is info on 4 year and 6 year CTT. The big difference is that 6 year will have C school which means they are at Corry about 18 months. They also get to E4 when they get done with school. My son is a 6 year CTT on his first deployment so far so good.

Dina - Just like cinder said, there is a lot of info in the above discussion area. The main difference is the 6 year guys are extremely educated on electronics and signal spectrum's The 4 year guy are just the operators of the equipment (ie the 6 year guys can operate and repair).

Dina - I'm confused. Are you saying he's already in the Navy? It sounded to me like he isn't even in yet. Do tell...

Jeremy - They are not segregated, within reason. Sure there are special programs that are kept separated from the rest, but it's a whole CT team, not just the CTR rating. I think what you're hearing is "CT's" in general are kept separate fro the rest of the sailors. This is true. CT's work behind vault doors while on ships. Everyone on the ship wonders what goes on behind those doors. Little do they know, it's usually us playing "hearts" or "spades" card games when were off duty at sea.

Just had some exciting news...our CTT just received the Navy and Marine Achievement medal (NAM) for work on the system during deployment. He was "loaned" to this ship 4 weeks ago and has worked nonstop. Will be stepping off for the first time today for a break in Rome! He is hoping to get back to his own ship soon, but says still a lot of work to be done. Having struggled all through high school, he is thriving in the Navy.

I will brag a little on my son as well. CTI in Monterey, he is in the top 10 in his class and was chosen for total immersion training in a foreign country for a month. So excited for him. He is excelling as well. Yea for the Navy....it works for him.

Yes Cinder, that is a real motivator for those CTI's down there. He does not want to fail. He does nothing but study...We're real proud of him. :)

My newbie classed up three weeks early and didn't get the head start that other branches received. She started behind.....really hoping she can catch up. She has also had a large amount of technology issues....internet doesn't work in her barracks or is intermittent at best. She studies until 2 am most nights, but she is trying to get out on weekends. Tough school....

Sammy ...I'm not sure what you mean by rate...still new at this. I guess she and her entire class bombed the first written quiz but she scored very high on the first listening quiz. Said the vocab is killing her. She is in a study group every night until 8:30 on the other side of base and then has to find somewhere to study since the light in her room doesn't work. She also said none of the Navy folks are in her study group, it is Army and Marines. But at least she is making connections.
