    Hi Jackie
My daughter has been on ship 5 since the beginning of June and is still there. I talk to her everyday. She is waiting on her medical discharge. While running for her final physical fitness assessment she fracured her femural neck and dislocated her hip with just 2 weeks left till graduation : (. Your granddaughter should be able to call just about everyday with a longer phone call a 2 or 3 days out of the week. It's rough and definitely takes some getting used to. You can send her books and magazines. My daughter has been at Great Lakes since the beginning of March. If I can help you just let me know.

My daughter's PIR date was 5/7. She was injured 4/23 and was hospitalized at the North Chicago VA until I believe 5/13. I am from PA so Great Lakes is quite a distance from me. I did fly out there for almost every weekend that she was in the hospital. She too went to RCU (ship 6) after being discharged from the VA. She hated it there. It was very difficult for her to maneuver around on crutches. She finally got off crutches at the end of July.

My daughter's case is being looked over by the medical review board in Washington, so right now we are just waiting for them to send her med review back. This can take up to 12 weeks and they just received it on 7/21. This is definitely a learning experience. My daughter seems to be having a very difficult time of it right now and is just sick of it all and wants to come home ASAP. Her 21st birthday is Tuesday and she is depressed about having to spend it there. We've all had our fill of the whole situation. We've gone through every emotion and now we all just want her home.

She too was very crushed when this happened to her and the fact that she wouldn't be graduating and having a career in the Navy. I hope your granddaughter gets what she wants. Whatever happens will take some getting used to but will probably be for the best.

Hi Jackie, I just wanted to send you a line to tell you how sorry I am to read about your grandaughter. I hope you have a lot of success getting her a second opinion and getting her the proper RE Code for reenlistment that she needs. I was surprised to read she was being discharged. You sounded as if she was making great progress and getting ready to graduate soon when we spoke. I'm worried my son too will eventually end up in ship 5. He is still in ship 6 with a stress fracture in his heel. I will pray that things turn out well for your grandaughter and she recovers and is able to reenlist should the US Navy still be her dream. Best wishes to you and your grandaughter.

I think she has she has lost interest in being a sailor. She never got a chance to try & all this waiting around is hard on her. She is angry with the recruiter & MEPS for letting her go to BC. Good Luck to your grandaughter.

Mollie is still open to re-enlisting, it surprised me. We need to double check the amount of time before she can try again. Her experience at Ship 5 was not as bad as the quick phone calls said. Good Luck with job interviews. Mollie has one tomorrow. She wants to take a few days to just rest before resuming the job search. I'd love to be on the trip with you - we skipped a family trip this year thinking we would be going to PIR.
