NavyFam, welcome!! It is wonderful for you to step in for his mom! You wll find this website to be VERY supportive, feel free to ask questions or share what is going on. This is a rollercoaster ride of emotions while they are in bc (bootcamp). One of the first things you'll want to do is make your reservations for graduation or Pass In Review (PIR). There will be a meet & greet Thursday evening prior to the PIR, you are welcome to come. In the discussions section you will find where you can RSVP for the Meet&Greet. you will also find a PIR experience, lists of things you could do that weekend, things to take that weekend. Oh, and Very Important Rules for Liberty (his free time that weekend), these are strict rules they are expected to follow & if they are found not following these rules, they could get the whole division in trouble. Something else you can do it to go back in the pages to read posts that are a week or so ago. You may also want to look into other groups, there is a bootcamp moms one & probably a group for the state you live in. Like I said feel free to ask questions. :)
I finally watched Battle Stations 21 ( the baby is asleep finally!) It was very interesting. I've heard of flight simulators and various emergency drills that are done, but I never knew the Navy was using technology along with the drills to give the SR's a more real world feel. Thanks for posting links to the video. I would have found it interesting even if my cousin wasn't about to face this challenge.
21 days and counting till I get to see my cousin again! Whoo hoo! I may not be a Navy Mom, but I helped raise my cousin since he was born. I am so very proud that he was willing to serve his country and follow in the footsteps of most of the men in our family to do so. I'm glad to be a part of this website and wish I had found this so much earlier, it would have answered so many questions. I also say thanks to all of you for making me feel welcome. I felt a little odd, since I'm not his mom, joining a site like this. PIR 24/2010 Here we come!
