I just read your story and now I"M REALLY scared for my daughter. She got shin splints about 3 weeks ago and had not yet passed her PFA from the first time... she was to take it again on Friday, she is to PIR on this Friday. Did the Navy say if this happens very often, that they don't call ahead of time?? That is crazy... I wouldn't be able to afford two trips to GL!!

Hey! I just read your post on 9/17. Chin up....this happens....and she will make it eventually. I am so sorry that you all went to PIR and she wasn't participating, but so happy that you got to spend a bit of time with her. Just to encourage you...she will be given many chances to make her run, especially after an injury. Unless her injury is something they think she can't recover sufficiently from (which doesn't sound like the case), she will get there. What should happen is this: If she makes the run, she should be allowed to call you and tell you she will be going through BattleStations that night. They will send her through with whatever group is going on the day she completes her run. I have been involved with the PIR groups for many months now (my son PIRed in Feb)and have seen some make their run in time to go through with their div group for BStations, and others who had made it the day before PIR, done BStations the night before, and then are in the balcony for PIR because they have been up all night and can't march. One girl, Kayla, was set back 5-6 weeks before she finally made her run....she became a sailor last week! Would you be interested in contacting her mom, Tobianne? She is a very involved N4M mom, and would be happy to take you through Kayla's journey...lots of prayer, and victory in the end. It helps to talk with others who have been down this road. Hang in there...keep the faith....she will make it....and your heart will be more proud than ever that she pushed through with such extra great effort! By the way, Kayla also was about 4 seconds off her run time, then slid backwards...but she eventually made it. I will post again here in a minute with Tobianne's screen name so you can contact her. She is a wonderful lady and would be so happy to help you! Please keep us posted!

She is the only one that comes up. Click on it and leave her a comment or message. Tobianne1sailorandone2b (she has a son in boot camp now...talk about lots on her plate! Kayla is in A School now). I will drop her a note to tell her that you may contact her. Please do...because the more support you get, the easier it is. Praying for your daughter! -Dianne

HI, IF i can be of any help at all... My daughter went through this. She as we find out now had been very sick (after getting back together from a minor ankle injury) refused to go to medical. Wanted so badly to pass the PFA and dang near passed out trying due to a 102.8 fever. From that point she was told she had a horrible infection. Had it for a while. Got past that and worked on her run. Then the Jaw reared its ugly head... now surgery is in the works.

Let me know I would be happy to write to her and give her the encouragement I gave to Kayla. It is crazy and you will think you have lost it, but you will make it I promise. I am hear if ya need to vent. I have to work for just 2 hours today and should be back here around 1:15 (Ohio time). Let me know how I can help you help her.

I see that you heard back here from Tobianne. YEAH! And how wonderful that your daughter knew Kayla! Wow....God works in mysterious ways. I hope that you and Tobianne connect because she was tested to the limits, as was Kayla. But they did it! She is one strong woman and Kayla one determined young lady. I have no doubt that your daughter will have a similar story soon....and then you can reach out and help other parents in the same predicament! I will keep her in my prayers....

Great, I know Kayla always tried to be an encouraging person to anyone that needed it. I am not sure how much of a bible reader you are, but I prayed and sent this to Kayla as well as prayed it to her while on the phone.
Numbers 6 ;24 to the end of the chapter.
This is the Only Blessing that God put his Name on. He said for them to bless the children with this.
It will get better, Kayla went through some very rough times, She had to have one abscess cut off and it was in the groin area, a second was being drained often. It is not easy and I know your girl is trying so hard.

I will talk to Kayla and have Kayla also say a prayer for her.
Just as a reaching goal, never underestimate the power of junk food. Kayla knew that light was at the end and that pizza was around the corner. lol something she really is not aloud to eat but what are ya gonna do tell them "NO"... she is paying for all of the wonderful things she has eaten in the past week. Her jaw is swollen and hurting bad. However to get out of BC makes it a bit less painful.

I can write to her if you would like, send me a PM with all needed info. I am happy to do this, a few moms wrote to Kayla and this helped her knowing that other folks cared also.
