Hello! You will draw strength from so many different things. I had a good slap in the face the day after my son shipped for boot camp a friend from church said to me. "What are you crying about he is coming home , my daughter died 60 years ago and I wish she would be coming home . So boy did that make me think alot. It was the hardest thing I ever did, saying goodbye ,letting go and let him spread his wings and fly. Just remember he loves you and misses you just as much as you miss him. Draw strength off of each other.God bless both you and him. Put him in god's hands and pray alot.

    Thanks so much.

You're very welcome, and I appreciate your thoughts and prayers for me and my husband! I understand emotional triggers, there have been a few things happen with me since my husbnad has been gone and I feel as though I have to put on a face for him in our letters so he doesn't know. I've been struggling but the people on this website help so much.

Hi there! Just wanted to offer my support after reading your post. My son left last Tuesday for boot camp....this has been the most emotional week of my life probably...would never have imagined this. Now, fast forward a week, and I have 9 of the best friends I will probably ever have in my life, even though we have yet to meet, I have gotten "the box", which gave me some weird kind of sense of relief, and now I feel like an old pro at this. Let me tell you, and I think this stands true of all of us moms from PIR 9/10/10 that just give it even a week and you will start to feel better.

I just felt like I wanted to reach out to you. A bunch of the moms called the recruiter on Monday, and I could not wait any longer, so once I called the recruiter and got Adam's ship and division number, JessicaB and Sobe knew what date his PIR would be. I am still waiting for the form letter though before I actually book a flight. Best wishes to you too, and keep in touch if you would like!

Loved your post today about getting the shoes and putting them in the hallway....I have to say, I have been one of the moms who feels I have had it easier as Adam was away at college for a year and did not live with me either as he is 21, but I broke down today and got his cell phone and called mine just to hear his ringtone like I am used to hearing sometimes 10 times a day. LOL! Hang in there Mom!

Yes, I got the first real letter yesterday too. He sounded pretty good, eating healthy and tired (I'd expect that). Evidently when they wrote their form letter, they were given the wrong ship # (6) and that is what went home to family. 9 is correct.
He did said this division was made up of 88 guys (no girls to make it interesting) and that they all seemed to be getting along well with each other. Haven't purchased tickets yet but Hotel reservations are made (which can be changed at no charge if necessary). If you need anything I'm here. Steve

thanks for the encouragement. I haven' got a phone call yet, but have got lots of letters. He sounded pretty up beat. He said they had extra PT because not everyone was in bed after taps. I only get on this sit for a few minutes also because I work and don't have time. will you be at PIR? Hoping to get plane tickets and room this weekend. Talk to ou later!

I would love to go to meet and greet butwe are from CA. We will fly in Thurs. around 7 so we will miss it. where is your son going to A school? At my mother in laws this weekend, no cell phones here. Hope we get a call next week!
  • familymom(Sip 09 Div 310)

A school is in Great Lakes. Not sure after that. He is going into medical field.
  • Karen

I will make it to the meet and greet, but as far as Friday goes, we will be glued to Joe. No time for a group photo. I'm so sad he will be grad and go :( It's a long way to travel for 1/2 day. Especially for 4 of us.

Heard from my son last Sun. Great hearing his voice. Can't wait to see him. Got our airline tickets and room, now to get rental car. No letters this week yet. He said it was Hell week and may get chance to call next week. I sure hope so. I carry my cell phone everywhere just in case.

Good morning. Sometimes it feels like I'm getting used to Joe being gone, but then I have "those moments"... I look forward to the day I can call him anytime I want to! That is the hardest part for me. Do you think we would be able to hang at the base on Friday? I wonder if they will fly out commercial or charter. And how do we find out??? Have a good day :)
  • countrymom

Hello, thank yous so much for your reply. Yeah, my son is getting discouraged I think with all the IT. From his letters, it sounds to me like there are some not willing to work as a team, but instead want to lead everything. So, he asked for prayer for his whole division. I know it is hard on these recruits. Hopefully they can pull together and make great strides :)
Thanks so much for your prayers. What occupation is your son going into upon graduation?

So close and for some reason I am really missing him tonight. :(
  • backpacking5 ~ Whidbey Island, W

Thanks it is nice to know someone understands, my husband thinks I'm nuts. (((((hugs)))) back at you.
  • Houstondad

Amen to that. When he was in High School, I hoped and prayed he would graduate so he could go in the Navy. Now 8 weeks of very very little contact. These guys deserve some big hugs.
  • Karen

Javajo50, Isn't it wonderful? Such a relief! Praying for the rest of us that have to keep waiting. Looking forward to meeting you at the grad and go.
  • SM312

we had fun again tonight, can't wait to see my boy again, on the phone he sounds like my son, but the Navy has turned him into a man. God bless our children. God bless America.
  • hotflashes

Thank you javajo, so sorry we didnt get a chance to meet and yes the ceremony was awesome!!
  • hotflashes

I wonder how we missed doing this before?? Lol
  • Karen

Java, Our last name starts with an "M"... similar to a "W", but upside down :) Joe said he has let a lot of guys use his phone. ONly a few of them have their phones with them. His roommate is Hall. Is that you by any chance?
  • Karen

Joe sounds good. We think he is very happy. Even though he is a janitor right now :) I pray he is successful with this next step. School was really his cup of tea, so this program seems ominous to me. He did say that there is a lot of LARPing on campus during liberty. I didn't know what he was talking about. Do you?? It stands for live action roll playing. Kind of like the people that roll play medival times. Well they are roll playing vampires and vampire hunters!! I guess there were LARPers on the Oregon State Univ campus also. My other son mentioned how odd it would be to see a guy hiding in the bushes hunting vampires and he would recognize him from one of his classes :)
  • Karen

Hi JoAnn, I think Joe starts on Tuesday... but I thought he was supposed to start last Wednesday also :) He said he has been 'briefing' all week. Re-hashing the same thing they already know. You are soooo lucky to be able to go see your son in two weeks. Did I see that you are taking two pies? I can't wait for Joe to come home for Christmas. Just being able to talk to him is awesome. Have a great weekend and go sell a house :) Karen
  • Karen

Hi JoAnn, Joe seems to be doing well. He took a math test today and scored 2nd highest in the class. This is from a kid that didn't do well in high school or the university at all... so that is quite a feather in his cap. He told his brother that he wishes he could have done college on his own, but... he knew he needed a very strict environment, so now we have the navy. All these years, my husband and I thought we were strict, but unless we were like the military... Your son is not an MM, correct? Joe said he wouldn't be in his class unless he was an MM.
All in all, I think Joe is okay. I know he misses us. We love talking to him. He is very busy. Worries about breaking a rule... Have a great time with your son. I envy you :) Karen
  • Karen

JoAnn! Your note brought tears to mine and my husband eyes... thank you. And how were you able to meet Joe? Brian and him do not have class together. They must be friends?? You are so sweet to take pies to the guys :) I can't wait to go see him. It's my husbands and my Christmas present to each other. How much time did you get to spend with Brian? I am thinking that we will get Joe for a Saturday. How did you get Brian on Friday? From one shorty to the other, thank you :) Karen
