I served in the Navy for 10 years. I have 2 kids and one is in college and my daughter just graduated from high school and surprised me with wanting to join the navy.

Sherri,
I see you joined the Moms of Daughters 2 group and I want to welcome you!!! We are a close, friendly group of moms who are always available to help, support, and give you a shoulder to lean on!! Please feel free to jump in and join our chats. We look forward to getting to know you and your sailor. Is your daughter still a Depper? When is she scheduled for bootcamp? Another group you might be interested in is called Moms Who Served. I am a Navy vet also. When did you serve and what did you do?
ha ha - sorry for all the questions!!! Again, Welcome Aboard!!!!!
OK - so now I have another question!!! What is an OTA?
I served from 1972-1975 (at that time regular enlistments for women were only 3 years). Then I did 2 1/2 years as an active reservist. I was an OS3. I was stationed in San Diego. Also a tough assignment!!!! I have a son and a daughter serving and another daughter (who is in college now) is awaiting her final acceptance to the Navy's BDCP as a Naval Flight Officer.
That's cool!! I've never heard of that rate before. I know they have changed things so much since I was in. So far I've had an older brother, his middle daughter and youngest son, my husband, myself, and our two kids all serve Navy. My dad and another brother were Army. My nephew is still in but I don't even know what ship he is on!!
What college does your son go to and what is his major?
I've been on this site since Nov of 08. It has been very helpful for me because I've moved twice since then and haven't made many friends to hang out with. Plus I'm not working now and with an empty nest it is hard to meet people. So not only do I find many really neat people to talk to through this site, I've been able to meet some of those friends both in OH and NC and we have so much in common it doesn't matter that we've only met in person once or twice!!!! I so enjoy talking to the moms on the Daughters 2 group. We really help each other out. I have more of a hard time with my daughter being gone that I did when my son enlisted. I'm just so close to my twin daughters.
Sherri,
The nice thing about this website is all the various groups you can belong to. If you know when she is supposed to leave for bc you can look for a group of other members who have a sailor leaving on that same date. Search for deppers leaving ______. Then when she gets to bc and you know her ship/div and PIR date you can search for groups who have the same PIR date or ship/div. Unfortunately I didn't know about this site when my daughter went to bc back in July of 08. A couple of the groups I belong to are because of where my daughter is stationed now. It's so nice to talk to people who are right there by her. Several moms got together once and took my daughter and several other sailors out to dinner. I got to see the pics on the website and it was so nice to see her happy and having fun!!!
My daughter Jordan is on Ship 2 Div 919. She was in the marching band but they never asked her about it. Just asked if she was a good runner and swimmer, which she is and she was placed in that division. We got the form letter stating her graduation is March 25th. Susan
I am glad you replied! I am definetely planning on attending PIR I have not yet received an information packet and am I am not familiar with the area either. Any tips for travel arrangements?
I thought we would receive a "confirmation packet", but I guess we will go ahead and make travel arrangements . I already took care of the hotel reservation and we are also staying at the Residence Inn. It seems to be a good deal. I will be traveling along with my husband and my 20 year old son.
