Welcom to San Francisco Bay Area Families Group.  My son had PIR 1/21/11 and is in ET school at Great Lakes for a year after graduation. Keep your phone with you at all times and know that the area code is 847.  I missed a call because I hesitated accepting a call from the 847.  They get calls as a priviledge we a graced at times we least expect to get the calls. Write, write, write to your sailor, send favorite comic strips, jokes, photos printed onto your stationery then write your letter. Write to us about your cares and anxieties

Well now we know where you will be 6/3/11...the weather will be much better than my son's PIR 1/21/11. It was negative 34 degrees. Other than that the getting to PIR and on the base was pretty straight forward and the whole town is set up to help parents to get to PIR on time. Write, write, write to him. Be fun and silly sometimes but send in plain envelope.  You will be his ONLY entertainment.  Printing photos on you paper where you write your letter was the best advice I got.  Have fun watching your son become a man.  It is so exciting.  My son is in ET school in Great Lakes now.  It is a long school.  He had to sign on for 6 years to get this school

Yes, we got our first letter with the 4 lines of recruit remarks on it on Monday and then yesterday got the kid in the box stuff.  My son said RT is OK.  The food like a good TV dinner.  It was easy to get yelled at but they stop if you just do what they say and don't look lost.  His only complaint was the plastic pillows and drinking a lot of water with no bathroom breaks.  I have been doing a nightly journal of what is happening here and asking some generic questions that he can answer back if he has time to write and then I will send several days of my rambling in one envelope.  I will definitely start printing photos onto paper though -- that is a great idea.  My son is in the NUKE program and had to sign for 6 years too.  Where did you stay when you went to PIR.  We are going to have 5 to 6 people there.

Our sailor hated the word "hydrate" too.  He never mentioned the pillows--just that he was cold in the summer when he bunked down.

You already got a real letter from him? That's awesome! You didn't have to wait long at all. I got my form letter a few days ago. I can't wait to get my first letter and hear about how things are going.

I can't believe you have gotten a letter and a call already.  Have not heard anything from Shaun as of yet so have no clue how many Nukes are there.  I did not realize there would be so many I guess cause it's harder I just assumned not many.  But thats awesome so we will all be south Carolina bound for our vacations...Hopefully they will get to all know each other and bond from everything I've read it is going to be very hard.  Best wishes to you and please keep me updated on Matt..   Carol

got a letter yesterday was so excited.  He loves it   he is a strange child  lol

he is yoeman for 191 we have been living in nashville tn for the last 12 years

i'm sorry Matts birtjhday is in boot camp Shauns 20th will be July 8 in Charelston (hopefull)  maybe we should change Matt's till then for this one and celebrtae then. I know we can't do last names here, I am on facebook  Carol Wells Arnold if you want to be on there I figure we have a few years together.. I'm so glad to meet you. it will make them being in Charelston so much easier with someone else going thru it  I hear they can not communicate that much there due to security reasons but aleast we can visit

To hapsmolmr:  Sorry I'm late in responding.  Don't have much to share from my SR--hope to have letter this week.  Definitely hadn't heard about the flag thing...

Glad you're going to PIR--hope to meet you there!  Looking forward to seeing my SR and the city--have never been there. 

Yes!! How's your son doing? Mine has been sick but somehow has managed to keep going. I was so excited to see his picture on the RTC site playing in the band for PIR. Are going for PIR? I am and am counting the days.

I just found this note asking me my sons name. Sorry I missed it before. His name is Caleb. Will look for you on FRIDAY!!! So excited!!!! We are flying in from Washington state Thursday (late) evening and will miss the meet and greet
