If you all want to be able to consult with his doctors and the "powers that be" up there, please ask him to sign a waiver to allow that. He can do that. Unless he does, you all can't talk to anyone. I understand this is especially important if he IS separated because his discharge code is extremely important...especially if he would like to re-enlist one day. I would mention this (signing waiver) to him in a letter or the next phone call....prayers for you and your SR. Just so you know, there is a girl who broke her leg in Jan at bc. she is still in bc and trying to pass her run. I understand from another mom that she had one last chance last week to do it. Haven't heard the results. Hoping your son can stay...if that is what he wants to do! PRAYERS
He will be sent to SHIP 6-this is where recruits who are injured and being retained at BC go to heal. Once they are cleared they are recycled back into a PIR group to finish BC.
If he is sent home then he will go to SHIP 5(though the injury has to be treated too) and the process will start. If this happens you need to make sure to get him to sign a waiver allowing you to speak with Legal about his case. Since it is medical he also needs to sign a HIPPA so you can speak to medical about his injury. Without the waivers they will not speak to you.
Yes, he is a man, but this has to be dissapointing and he is also hurt. Everyone needs an advocate to be able to speak for them when maybe they can't. How are his spirits?
IF he is discharged the DD-214 form needs to be in complete order. How you exit the military is just as important as how you enter.
PLEASE keep us posted as there ARE steps you can take to make sure he gets what he needs. Once we know WHAT is going to happen we can try our best to help you...help him.
