    Welcome, you may want to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. I also suggest you join New Moms Stop Here and check out the Pages and Discussions there.

    Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there.

    I finally got my call at 11:49 this morning kind of worried about it being so late in morning.  Maybe reading too much into it.  I did not get to talk to him though I was at work and missed the call.  Saved the voice mail message though LOL.  He sounded really tired.

    Hi! We got the call around 10 pm last night. I did have a recruiter tell me that not everyone will necessarily get a chance to call. If there are delays or things don't get done in a timely fashion, some kids could be left out. In case you didn't get a call, he told me that "no news is good news". I know that may not help you, but if it makes it any easier, there was NO time to say anything during the phone call. Barely get a ok and bye in before he hung up the phone. :( Hope this helps a little.

    Praying that you will get it soon.  Brandon sounded really tired, so they probably are wearing them down with all the activities they have to complete.  Our high school principal is retired Navy and he said the first week is very hard on them.

    Hi Michele  I received the "box" today.  It hurts and feels good at the same time.  Weird?? Felt good seeing something of his but then on the other hand still know there is no contact with him.  No formal letter or address yet.....Good Luck and keep strong....I'm trying but it's hard.

    Hi Michele,  How are you doing???? I received a phone call from my son's recruiter the other day and he gave me his ship # and div #.  However I'm still waiting for the formal letter.  The other day I drove around looking for the mail lady before I was going to work, spotted her, and ask if there was any mail for me.  She was awfully nice.  Sad there was no mail but while I went to go and park to wait for her to finish like 6-7 houses I popped a tire.  I guess I learned the hard way to be patient.  Hope all is well. Keep strong cuz I know i'm trying.

    Hi Michele, I finally received the formal letter today.  It was so exciting to finally receive it.  His PIR is 10/14 and ship 02 div 948.  I was so happy to read the few lines written by him.  It brought happy tears.  Hope all is good.  Keep strong...

    Hi Michele,  Hope you are safe and that Irene didn't do too much damage.  We survived pretty well here, thank god my nephew was with us as he is being deployed september 30th, he is in the marines.  I'm hoping that the letters start arriving cuz it would be great just to hear how they are doing and what they are doing.  The not knowing is the hardest.

    Hi Michele.  Nice to meet you. I live right down the block from Savannha.  I'm off of East Meadow Ave near Speno Park. I thought they were redoing it?  Have you made any travel arrangements?  We've only booked the hotel--I can't decide on the airlines or the airport.

    Southwest flies to Midway-Chicago and the rest of the airlines fly from JFK/LGA to Ohare.  Some moms even said to check flying into Milwakee.  I'm not sure what we're doing for a flight.  If I book Jetblue and use my AmEx card I get a 25% discount, but I don't know if the filght times work.  Also my oldest son is in grad school and has a class Thurs night and doesn't know if he'll be able to go.  So I don't want to book the tickets till after Hofstra starts and he finds out.  Where is your son scheduled for A school?

    Hi Michele,  My son is the baby of the family-he's 6'3 (lol).  I need to stand on the steps to hug him and kiss the top of his head.  He went to college for 2 years (Adelphi and NCC), but he wanted to join the military right after high school.  College was a favor to me.  He promised me a year of school.  I was hoping it would change his mind. The year at NCC was while he was a Depper-he needed to stay in school so he would have health insurance.  He did not like school, so how he ended up in the most education intense military branch is beyond me.  I know he'll do well because whenever it was a topic that interests him he did well.  We are planning on leaving early Thursday.  My husband is off and my daughter is a substitute teacher and doesn't plan on taking any work for those days.  The discount is a promotion Jetblue is doing with AmEx.  We are staying at the Springhill Suite Gurnee.

    I was wondering the same thing. My son's name is Dodds (last name) they most likely only know each other by their last names.  When I was in basic there were only a few people that I knew by their first names.  Have you received a letter or call yet?

    ThanksMichele, I changed my Facebook picture for the 9/11 memorial, something with the American flag, I have 4 yellow labs so this was a perfect picture for me. Decided to make it my profile pic on here too

    So how is your Matt holding up?  My Matt sounded good when he called today, said he'd made a lot of friends and was still glad he'd joined. I was relieved when he said that, but my husband is retired airforce, so he's somewhat used to the military life.
