Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
The one thing I learned being a military wife was FRIENSHIP. We made some of the best friends ever that we still keep in touch with, years after being out. Gave my husband discipline and a chance to see the world and to start a career. His training in the US Navy game him the job he has today.
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Join that Indiana group page!  We're having a packing party for Molly's Adopt a Sailor on Saturday, and I'm driving over for it and to see some of my family.

I never used facebook or social networks before N4M.  Have I learned a lot, but no where close to what my sailor son can do.

    Shannon,

You should join the group for Deppers too. Your son should join this NavyDepper group organized by Craig, one of our members who was prior service. Here is the link.

    Hi , Shannon,

Welcome to Indiana Moms.  I live in Avon too!  I'm the administrator for the group, so if you have any questions, please ask. My son is a Nuke MM serving on the submarine ALABAMA, based out of Bangor, WA. He's been in for five years.

There's a monthly informal dinner right here in Avon, which meets on third Mondays. Click Sept 19 on the Events calendar (right-hand column) for next month's. From time to time, we also have regional gatherings in various parts of the state.

Jump in with any questions or comments you may have. I think you'll find we're a nice bunch of folks and always willing to lend an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Hugs! k.

We'll look forward to seeing you!  The reason we have "social time" from 5:30-6:00 is to cut down on the pressure to be there by 5:30.  We'd love to meet your sailor-to-be!  But, realize he might not want to eat with a table full of moms.  Although we usually have 2-3 dads join us too.  See you then! k.

Hi Shannon!  Did you notice?  We're neighbors!  I'm in eastern, central Illinois.

Though having our children away for their first Holidays will be challenging for us I'm a little comforted to know that they will be surrounded by others who are having the exact same experience.  I'm also finding it very theraputic to be invovled with the Holiday project.  It has to be the first Christmas away from home sometime, I guess.  They will be okay.  And so will we!  You speak of being in your own bootcamp.  I feel the same way.  We go through almost everything that they do, it hardly seems fair that we don't get a nifty uniform too, don't you think?

I've been thinking about your plan for working out while your sailor recruit is away an I think it's a great idea.  Mind if I join you?  We can keep each other on the straight and narrow.  And when we show up for PIR looking awesome they can be as proud of us as we are of them!

If you believe google maps (which i have found is sometimes not a good idea) we are 138 miles from you.  In two weeks we may be even closer.  We hope to go to Covered Bridge  if the weather holds.

Not in the same physical space perhaps.  That doesn't mean we can't be with each other in spirit!  Just haivng to be accountable to another person withthe same goals will help me.

Hey, Shannon!  Well, my son left Tuesday (what a horrible day)  and got to Great Lakes yesterday.  I went to the Gym today.  I'm sooo out of shape!  That is going to change in the next eight weeks.  How about you?  You still on board with the boot camp for Mom plan?  My son sounded so focused and strong when he called last night.  I'm going to use him as my role model.

I really don't know how I am going to do this I am already a mess and he dosn't even leave til Monday. My hubby and I have also been having some issues and about a week ago when everything felt like it was spiraling out of control I made the decision that I was going to have to put a smile on my face and get thru this til he is gone. I to have recently started a new job however it is also draggin me down. I am affraid once Gar is gone I am going to completly fall apart. This group is amazing and I am glad to find others.
