hey, just saw that your son is in the same ship 09 and division 071 as my son. this is a crazy place to try to keep up, but its cool seeing how other parents are doing. heres to hoping we hear from our boys soon!
thanks for the kind words.. i shouldn't be upset he called his sister.. glad they are that close...still haven't heard from him yet today but we'll leave to drive up after his dad gets home from work (3:30) i'm taking off couple hours early to go home and change and be ready for the travel/trip.. all packed. even packed fannel pj pants ,jeans and sweatshirt for Joe to relax in if he doesn't have watch friday (he thinks he may though).in the hotel room.and yes i know in past he has loaned phone card out and helped out others too.
at least big sis got the call..and i'm still proud he made it he is a "sailor" now.
thank you so much for sharing PIR from 2/11 we drove , got caught in traffic and sat in balcony for div 073.. our pictures are good but soso .. you've shown what we missed. thanks again,
okay thanks again for sharing.. we drove, got caught in traffice, and ended up in balcony.. great PIR but your pictures show us what we missed didn't see from 073 upstairs..
William In Nashua, My son just arrived at BC on the 6th and signed up as a Navy Nuke. I didn't know that they could still not accept them into the program! That's sounds terrible...what do they do to recruits if they decide not to take them!?
Thanks for the friend request and making me feel so welcomed into this group. I appreciate having people that have gone through or are going through the same experiences to talk to. It is especially helpful having people that are just one step ahead, such as yourself with your son. You have many of the answers to my questions and they are still fresh in your memory. I am sure in time, I will be able to be helpful to other newbies! Talk soon.
Thank you for the info William. They had their first 4-day a couple of weeks ago and when I asked about Canada, he said they didn't go. I thought they were just too tired and rested up instead. He has been really good about protocol, so he must know about the restrictions and just didn't bother to tell me. I am so glad to be a part of this group so that I have some idea of what goes on!
Sorry, just saw the friend request. Love your pic. My best friend is a Treky!
My son is also an ET. He has already re enlisted. Your son is in my neck of the woods.
I am a farm kid from Upstate NY. From a town called Cazenovia. Going home in 2 weeks to 400 acres, horses, tractors, my pickup truck that shifts 3 on the tree and all my crazy friends that farm their 1000 acre farms... we work hard and play harder. GreAt part of the world... will you be visiting your son? Think your words are wonderfully comforting to so many of these moms. Well done.
When will your son graduate? Mine says Nov 30th. Some of the Moms are saying Nov23rd for this group. Yes there is way to much to see in your area for a 4 day trip. Don't know if we can return there as Sailor son has put on his "list" SanDiego and Washington as the top choices. Everything is so far away from MN.
Hi, He wasn't a sub vol because he is 6'8" and didn't think he could handle the close quarters( he's a EM). He had tried to get a SPU assignment and interviewed for a position (didn't get it though). That seemed like a good move but they don't have lots of openings all the time. It seems like all the carrier volunteers got sent to Norfolk and some of the sub volunteers also. They got different ships but I hadn't heard of a single one getting sent to the west coast (I had him ask all his friends). It also seemed like all the sub volunteers, that got subs, were sent to Pearl Harbor. I don't know of how other classes are assigned but I did see a post that said an entire class got sent to the Stennis in Washington (seemed a little odd). I don't know how much choice any of them really have but it would be really interesting to know if they always send the whole class to the same area. My son's class was relatively small(Ballston Spa) but I know the next one coming through is quite large. He(and others that are unhappy) is starting to get excited about the Norfolk area- but they are really going to miss that beautiful, rural community and head for a very large base(the biggest in the world).
Hi William. I was pretty sure my sailor was right in saying that the 30th was the grad day. I just could not see them having it Thanksgiving weekend. Sailor son kinda got stuck in that same situation for Boot Camp Grad. He started Nov 2, 2010, and with Xmas and New Years falling on the weekend, his BC was over 9 weeks long with his graduation on Jan 7th.
2 months, wow the time has seemingly gone fast...I am sure for our sailors in the heart of study, exams, watches, and crew shifts, it has not been so fast. Thanks for the info, will you be going to the graduation?
Hi William, I was surprised to see you on the Eisenhower group, but was GLAD to see you post there. My son in on the Eisenhower and I have done little more than read since last Dec. When I first visited the site there was an extreme amount of Drama, arguements, and name calling. One could almost refer to it as "cat fights" I felt much more comfortable with the Nuke moms, but also have a need to try and stay informed of what is happening on my sailor's ship. Anyway thank you for the informative post on that "carrier link". I pray for God's protection of all our militay, and that parents aren't doing really stupid stuff that affects my son's ship. My son has expressed in emails that he likes what he is doing and that he is glad he chose this path in the Navy. Do I remember right that your son is submarine? I had gotten the impression that his choice was also a good fit for him. Well glad I saw you on the IKE and I always appreciate your words of wisdom.
