I would have her take $30 or $40 in cash but make sure she has a bank card for whatever account will have her check sent to. If no one has told you or her yet, she also needs a deposit slip for her account so they can set up her automatic payroll. With a bank card, she can make any purchases at the NEX. I don't remember my daughter needing cash for anything else. She never mentioned any problems. Also make sure she has a small address book where she can write down important phone numbers and addresses. It's amazing how we all get so dependent on our contacts lists in our cell phones that we completely forget to memorize phone numbers. With all the stress they have it's easy to forget someone's number!!!
Oh, sorry - - forgot about the question regarding travel from the airport!!!! The Navy has buses they use to transport all the incoming sailors to RTC. They usually always travel in small groups and they will be instructed where to go and will get picked up and delivered right to RTC.
Welcome to NavyforMoms.com. My name is Ronny and my son has been in the Navy since February of 2012. He is currently stationed in San Diego with a Helicopter Squadron. He is an Aviation Structural Mechanic. I hope you find all the info you are looking for here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. My son is 3rd Generation Navy, so I do know a little about the Navy..:)
If you have a new Sailor who is in Boot Camp, or leaving soon, visit CallsforRecruits.org and I will send you FREE Pre-Paid Phone cards for your SR to use while they are in boot camp. I started that program when my son left for Boot Camp :)
Welcome Aboard and I wish your Sailor Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Hi, I would like to invite you to join DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in April. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for... and also join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) there. You may also want to check out Women in the Navy, Mom’s of Navy Daughters, and Mom's of Daughters 2. MA is a rating very dear to my heart since my Sailor is an MA. Sometime between now and the end of BC, join San Antonio MA's; there is a "Break down week by week" discussion that will let you know what happens at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio). You will also want to join MAA Moms. Other groups to check out are New MAA Mom's (it has not been very active) and Security Sailors (it is not as active and includes loved ones of Sailors from other ratings as well). Take care and blessings to you and your future Sailor.
