He is an Aviation Structural Mechanic. I hope you find all the info you are looking for here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. My son is 3rd Generation Navy, so I do know a little about the Navy..:)

Actually he ended up leaving on Tuesday. We got the " I'm here" call Tuesday evening around 8:30. Yup, I have been a mess. It is hard because I work in school and it is finals week! So I have been a nervous wreck for about a week or so. I watched a really awesome video a mom posted on here last night with my husband and we both sat there with tears running down our cheeks. I know his first 24 hours are over so I feel a little better. How are you doing? Thanks for checking up! It means a lot!
We are doing a little better. It's so unusual for me to be so emotional like this. We have not received the form letter yet, although I could ask his recruiter I feel better waiting for the form letter. This recruiter is new and took over for a very wonderful recruiter who was here when my son signed up. Trust issues, I guess. I don't want his mail getting delayed. I liked your video of Joe! All MEPS look the same?! LOL. Thank you for your support. It really means a lot!! I hope we can meet at PIR. I am not sure where we re staying yet. How about you?
I know what you mean. It's weird how the box starts off a chain reaction of feelings. I felt so proud of Josh too, but my heart is still raw with missing my guy. I am trying not to call him my baby now that he is a man, but it's tough since he is my youngest. Hugs! :)
JoeR'sMom- I'm sad. Exhausted from being at work. I have tomorrow off. Holding up as any attached mom would be when it comes to her kids. I really wanted to talk to him! :( How are you?
I had a bad gloomy depressed day. I cried at work. I cried at lunch. Just blue from the moment I woke up. Everyone around me kind of drowns me out or ignores me when I talk about my son. *rolling eyes*. No one here shares the same enthusiasm as I do.
We were an Air Force family for almost 10 years. Two bases. Locked on base since we also lived on the base when 9/11 happened. I was initiated into the lifestyle the hard way. But it toughened me up to be who I am today. My kids loved it. We spend a lot of time at MacDill over in Tampa because my daughter is still an Air Force dependent with ID and they granted me a base pass along with her brother *(my SR). I think that was helped influence his decision. Because it's the only place we actually feel "normal"? It's a part of our lives and we miss it a lot.
I don't really talk to my co-workers except casual chit chat in passing. I'm an old hat with the company? Just new to that particular store. So they have some alliance with each other that is rather uncomfortable for myself. I only mentioned my son today because I was visibly upset. Fighting back the tears. Not wanting to be there. I wear my son's Navy PT shirt he wore for PT at the recruiters office every day at work. I get compliments on it.
I think they will all have a change of heart come Monday. My son and I have been in two feature human interest stories with our local 4 county newspaper. We are a special family. He's a special son. The reporter that did the original two stories? Did a follow up with him going into the Navy. And it will be published Monday morning. I work Monday afternoon. If they didn't know me before? They will definitely know my family and I then. The only one I even told at work was the manager because he and I share common military bonds. He was former Air Force. And a civilian K9 cop. We clicked first meeting and I had the job that week. But he will know the rest of the story Monday as well. He is anxious. The whole store will know then.
My son is an amazing young man. He earned his independence :) But, you can tell he's a Mama's boy. Always. My youngest son. My only son. And I'm just so proud of him that I can't stop talking about him! If I never did anything right in life? I did good with my kids.
Keep talking about your son!! Be the proud mom! A proud Navy mom! I know I take the job seriously. :P You did good mom!!
Our son's left together from Fort Meade...I see him in your photo! That gives me comfort...You seem to have a lovely family and I know you are missing him as much as I miss my Nathaniel. I sometimes half expect to see him taking a nap on our loveseat when I get home from work! I got the first call when they got there, but nothing since. His girlfriend got a call so that gave her some peace...The address I got from the recruiter was soooo wrong! I am expecting my first letter to be returned. They are in good hands. I am so glad a lady overheard my family and I talking at dinner the other night. She came over and told us about this site!
Kathpost I remember you and your family, Nate right? Your husband mentioned to my husband that he is your 3rd son going into the armed forces, don't know how you do it! You must be an angel :). I'm glad you are on here, this site is great for support and information. What ship and Div is your son in?
He is Ship 04 Div 283...same as yours?! Joe has such a nice smile! What is his job going to be? I don't know much about the Navy. I am just glad that Nathaniel decided to do his "own" thing and venture away from this all Army family! And the benefits are great! Our oldest got out of the Army and will receive his degree from Slippery Rock in December. All paid for by Uncle Sam. Ben just completed his 2nd tour in Afghanistan and is stationed in WA. I only have one boy left and he is a senior! Very quiet around this old house! I don't think it ever gets easier. Lots of faith and love get us through...
Oh I'm so glad they are together, Gives my heart peace to know they are not alone. Joe is doing IT, going to Pensacola for A school, what about Nathaniel?
He will stay in Chicago...Mechanic? I can't remember the "techinical" term for it. I know...I am glad they got a chance to meet and relate to each other before they left. Hard to have to be alone during such a stressful time.
I keep looking at these pictures, and I don't see him anywhere. I kept "thinking" i saw him, but my son kept telling me I was wrong. Hate these over 40...nearly 50...year old eyes!! Glad you saw Joe! That is exciting!!
