I have received several calls and some are from US Government and some that said pay phone, I figure i will pick up the phone and if it is a telemarketer I will just hang up.  I don't want to miss any phone calls from him.  My SR called his grandmother twice and my mom did not pick up either call because she thought they were telemarketers and was very upset with herself.

Hi, welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. I see that you have changed your Username so that it no longer contains your last name; you also need to change the URL to this page to remove it from there as well. Number 2 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile) (clickable link) will tell you how to fix that. There may be other changes you will want to make as well, such as numbers 3 and 4. I see you have joined Sub Moms; you wll also want to check out GROTON, CT. SUBSCHOOL & "A" SCHOOL MOMS and the Naval Submarine Base New London Facebook Page. What wil your SR's rating (job/specialty) be? There may be a group for that as well. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

You are very welcome. Join SECF - ET & FT & STS. The Rating Information Card for SECF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/secf.pdf.

It sounds like your SR may be the Yeoman for his division. Check out Recruit Petty Officer Positions.

I'm hanging in.  How about you?

It's been an adjustment for us as well.  I have a 12 year old daughter that is really missing her brother.  I can't wait to get "the box".  I think the hardest part is just not knowing how he is feeling and what he is doing.

The time till PIR seems to just creep by, so slow, glad it's almost here.  My son is going in as a Fireman Apprentice - engineering department, so he will attend FN-PACT training for about 9 weeks at GL and has two years to decide what he really wants to do LOL.  What is SECF?  Is your son excited about CT?   I haven't seen any mom's in Southern Illinois, nice to have someone close.

Our son's PIR was 08/08/08.  I joined this group when it first started, over 5 years ago.  That was before we even had 1,000 members.  I don't use N4M page too often---use facebook more.  However, you can almost always find me on the Molly's Adopt a Sailor group page here.

Sometimes letters are delayed, but we don't know the reasons for certain. Mail to the RTC goes to another location and then is sorted by the zip+4 and then goes to the RTC where it is further sorted. From what I've heard, those in the mail room only work M-F and regular working hours and may not make it through all of the mail that has come in that day, so they begin with the tub that they left off with on the day before. Once the letters are sorted then the RMPO can pick up the mail for the division and have Mail Call. There have been reports of 10 day delays lately between the loved one mailing the letter and the recruit receiving it, which is the greatest delay I have ever seen. It has been about 4 days, but sometimes 6 days, in the past (letter mailed on Thursday received on Tuesday, letter mailed on Friday received on Thursday). I hope that the mail catches up soon.
