Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for... to help you prepare. Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August, to connect with others with loved ones who will leave the same day and may have PIR together. On Tuesday you can change "Thinking about joining" above to "Enlisted." Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Since your future Sailor has a contract for Aviation Boatswain's Mate - Handling (ABH), join AB - Moms, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!, and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola. You may also want to check out Airman Family and Friends. The Rating Information Card for AB can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ab.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the form letter.

Hey there.  So sorry your form letter is taking a while to arrive, but it should get there---you are still within the 2 week window of time for it to arrive.  The important part of it is the password that your son would have written in.  That is what you will need to download your gate pass for PIR (available to do 11 days before PIR)....so you can drive onto the base.  If taking a shuttle from the hotel, you don't need it.  Hoping you get that special letter in the mail soon!

My on arrived on the night of the 14th.  I got the box Monday, but still no form letter.   I even went to the post office this morning and waiting for them to get done sorting mail (I live in a small town), and no letter.  I went to the recruiter's yesterday (because I'm THAT crazy), and she gave me information, but it doesn't make sense, because she gave me an address, ship # and division that don't "agree" with each other.  So I just hope and pray that the form letter comes tomorrow.  My oldest has to schedule off work and he doesn't even think he can make it if the PIR is the 18th, he can only go if it's the 11th.  My SR's recruiter told me graduation would be 10/4 or 10/11.  My oldest son told me his brother might have just been one of the last SR's to get placed on a ship.  AAAGGGHHH!!!!

Let's just hope and pray we get our letters tomorrow.  Then we can stop worrying about that and find something else to worry about (because there is always something for us mom's to worry about while they are in boot camp).  Please rest assured that your son is doing a wonderful thing wanting to serve his Country.  I was scared to death when my first son joined, but when this one decided to follow in his brother's footsteps I wasn't filled with fear, I was filled with pride.  Having a child join the military is scary--no two ways about that.  But they can hold their head high, and so can you when someone asks what your son does and you say "my son is a United States Sailor".   My wardrobe consists primarily of my son's sports teams t-shirts and Proud Navy Mom t-shirts.  So although scary, sit back and enjoy the ride.  It's all worth it in the end.  Hang in there!
