we're in Clifton, up north near the Meadowlands.  One of my friends is moving to Little Egg Harbor and another lives near there, it's nice, hope you didn't have Sandy damage.  You'll get his letter with his PIR soon, the "kid in a box" is so hard to deal with, isn't it?

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Join group DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in November to connect with others with loved ones who left the same day and may have PIR together. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Hi Alice, I checked and yes your comment was right where you wanted it!! It can be a little confusing at the start but stick with it and you will get the hang of it quickly.

You can send a message on the Molly's Adopt A Sailor group page and maybe more moms from NJ will be there!

Hi Alice   Its nice to meet someone else whos son or daughter is on ship 11 Div 055.  I did get to talk with my son on Saturday morning and I hope you have gotten to hear from your loved one.  I am new to this site and am unsure how to navigate it at this point but I too want to be involved

  • Kristie70

Happy Thanksgiving Alice! Think we can be lucky enough to get another call today? We did get letters yesterday which was nice. I am new to the site too... it can be confusing! I am starting to see more and more moms with kids in the same ship and div so that is good.

    Hi Alice,

I got a call from my daughter today.  She was good spirits, other then a little cold.  She was excited about getting her comos and is doing well. (not sure if I spelled comos right)  She said the food is good and staying away from the cookies. :)

Alice my son is in the ship 11 div 55, like your son. No I haven't received a call. I did get a letter yesterday though. I know there's been a lot of phone call activity. Don't know why my son hasn't called. Sitting and waiting!

I will be staying at the Navy Lodge as Sarge said it was the easiest place to stay. Let me know where you will be staying.

    Hello Alice,

Yes I have received 2 calls from my daughter who is in Ship 09 DIV 58.  The first call was a surprise and I was SSOOOO happy to hear from her.  I waited around the same time and day the following week and YES she called around the same time.  It was around noon on Saturday. Just go ahead and send the letters of Love and Encouragement.  My daughter sounded very good and I am very proud of her.  I will not go until graduation but hopefully they let a family adopt her.

Hi Alice. I did receive a call from my son yesterday. It was so good to hear his voice. He told me that he was doing well and he loved it. I was so happy to hear all the good news. I wish I could go for the adopt a Sailor for Christmas but I am unable to go due to my job.

  • michelle6

We have received two calls from our son.  I am so surprised because when our other son was in boot camp we only received tow but the first one did not come for about four weeks.  I unfortunately was not at home so he spoke with his dad.

I got a call this last Saturday...I missed one last weekend. Have gotten two letters and hope to get another soon. So good to hear from my daughter!

  • Proudmomjesus (Ship 13 Div 060)

Thank you, for you good wishes. Got a letter in the mail today. He's doing ok. He does say it's really hard, and that he thought that being at home was tough ha. He put a smiley face and said, I million times at home. It's really hard and strict they get yelled at for not having a shoe tied. But he says it's a learning processes and that he sometimes wishes he wasn't there but he says he is, do mixed emotions. He was excited to see other sailor that were gonna graduate. So that made it easier for him. Thanks Alice and your very lucky that your adopting your future sailor. God bless you.

Hi Alice thanks for the friend request. Thats cool you get to see your son for christmas. I wont be able to see my daughter for christmas and this will be the first year without her. But hopefully I will get to go to her graduation next month. My daughter is on ship 14 div 054. I have received one letter from her but she did call a couple of times which is good. It was nice to hear her voice. She is doing good there but she cant wait to get out of b.c. Talk to you soon.

  • Snickers110191

Before the parking garage was built, some did find that taking a shuttle or taxi to PIR was less walking than for those who drove onto the RTC. those with a handicapped placard did park closer than those without one though, so it has always been better for those with a placard to use it. Now that there is a parking garage adjacent to the Visitors Center, there is less walking for those who drive onto the RTC than for those who walk in. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.
