I am a 54 year old mom. My son will be deployed on Oct. 8th to Chicago for basic training. Then off to Texas for specialized training. He's is to become an MA for the navy. Hoping for the best for my son.
Welcome to NavyforMoms.com. My name is Ronny and my son has been in the Navy since February of 2012. He is currently stationed in San Diego with a Helicopter Squadron. He is an Aviation Structural Mechanic. I hope you find all the info you are looking for here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. My son is 3rd Generation Navy, so I do know a little about the Navy..:)
If you have a new Sailor who is in Boot Camp, or leaving soon, visit CallsforRecruits.org and I will send you FREE Pre-Paid Phone cards for your SR to use while they are in boot camp. I started that program when my son left for Boot Camp :)
Yes, you will be able to visit him at Lackland. He will let you know when the best time is, usually 3 or more weeks in. See te discussions in San Antonio MA's. At least loved ones who can't attend PIR can now watch the live stream at http://www.livestream.com/usnavyrtc.

Hi, join the group, Leavin' for bootcamp in October or October Boot Camp Family. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Master at Arms is a rating very dear to my heart since my Sailor is an MA. Join San Antonio MA's; the discussion, Break down week by week, will let you know what happens at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio). You will also want to join MAA Moms. Other groups to check out are New MAA Mom's (it has not been very active, but is picking up lately) and Security Sailors (it is not as active and includes loved ones of Sailors from other ratings as well). The Rating Information Card for MA can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ma.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) to help you know how to plan your weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
