Thank you for thinking of me. I actually found someone arriving at O'Hare at almost the exact same time, i think we are even booking the same hotel, which is really convenient haha but thank you so much again!!
Hi NJ Navy Mom! Wanted to give you a shout! Our Sailor, Kyle, finished NNPTC in Charleston May of 2011. Had been there since his PIR October of 2009. He is serving on the submarine USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23) and is based at the Bangor Trident Sub Base in Seattle WA. If you have any questions ask away. How great for your son and how proud you must be. Bet you can not wait to go to his PIR. It was one of the most awesome ceremonies I had ever seen and will never forget it. We are all so very proud of our Sailors. Take care!
Thanks! I would appreciate any Battlestations info you hear (just private message me). Your division will be going first (with 116). I have a "guess" as to when that will be, but would rather wait for confirmation.
Nuke school is difficult, but can be managed if your Nuke wants to be a Nuke. During boot camp your Nuke would have been asked to list his preference MM, EM, or ET. Approx 1 or 2 out of 10 will be ET. 2 or 3 will be EM. And 5 or 6 will be MM...of course it is always based on the needs of the Navy. The schooling for the MM is 3 months A school, 6 months Power School, 6 months Prototype. The schooling for the ET and EM will be 6 months, 6 months, and 6 months. The MM-ELT will go to additional training after Prototype before being assigned to the fleet.
My son was sworn in at FT. Hamilton and is now in A school to become a nuke. I went to his graduation from BC and would like to pass on some info. You will be allowed to meet your sailor at the airport to give them phones, lap tops, clothes - whatever. What they didn't tell us was that our sailors can be given another bag full of their things. My son took a full duffel bag of his possessions. It made life a lot easier for him. Had I known in advance that bag would have been packed full because a week later I was shipping a big box.

Is your sailor a Nuke? Mine is an EM on the USS Pasadena currently in drydock in New Hampshire.
Hi - I didn't want to address the comments and name-calling on the main board and stir the pot more - but I applaud the way you handled it. The comments directed at you were beyond the pale. I wish I could say they surprised me, but they fit with the poster's history of dogmatic statements.

Hey NJ Mom - nice to meet someone from NJ. I asked my son how close you are and he said we are quite a distance.
