My son just turn 19 and he has decided to join the NAVY. He is getting ready for BC. I am happy, nervous, sad, it's like all of my emotions are all going crazy. I look at him and i just feel like crying , I want him to go, live his life. I know that the Navy can give him a life and the experience that he may not get at home, we really never been apart.

Hi, when will your future Sailor ship to the RTC? If you know the ship date, go to the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... At the bottom are links for each of the months, join the one for the month that your future Sailor ships. I also invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) there. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. What is your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

So he will be going to Master at Arms school in TX after BC then?  Sounds great!

Sonar Technician – Surface (STG) or Sonar Technician, Submarine (STS)?

  • lemonelephant

Since your future Sailor has a contract for Sonar Technician – Surface (STG), join the group STG (Sonar). The Rating Information Card for STG can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/stg.pdf and https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/stgaef.pdf (STG AEF). Those who have signed a 6 year contract for AEF will have Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) at GL after PIR for about 6 weeks and then will go to San Diego, CA to the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center for “A” School. Those who have signed for less than 6 years will go straight to San Diego the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you plan your weekend.
