Since your recruit has a contract for Machinist's Mate (Submarines) (MM SS), join Sub Moms and GROTON, CT. SUBSCHOOL & "A" SCHOOL MOMS and check out the group, Machinest Mates, and Naval Submarine Base New London Facebook Page.
The Rating Information Card for MM SS can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mmss.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)
Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

PIR stands for Pass-in-Review and is a way to say graduation from Navy Boot Camp.
