My husband has family from Elgin, some who worked years ago for Elgin Watch Factory.

    Hi and Welcome.

We are happy to have you on the Navy for Moms site.  You are invited to join either the Illinois or Missouri family page as listed below.  It is a great way to find families in your area and even help plan meet and greets. We also have some packing parties for our troops overseas getting together.

Looking forward to hearing from you in one of our groups!

Hi Doreen. My name is Robin. My SR Austin is my "baby". I am finally adjusting to him being gone. I had a really hard time with this for the first week. I also am borderline obsessed with this site and the facebook site. Both sites are very informative. I agree, I think we know more than they do, at least about what is to come for them. My oldest was in the Air Force and there was nothing like this available when he left for Basic Training. It is very comforting to know that all the mothers are feeling the same way I do. My son's girlfriend got the phone call. I am a little jealous but I am ok with it. I told him that she could have that first call after the "I'm here" call. I can't be selfish, he needs to do what he needs to do to get through. She called as soon as they hung up and told me about the call. I was relieved to know he was doing ok and making friends. And he told his GF to tell me that I would get the next call, if there is one, LOL. Have you made any arrangements for PIR yet?

Doreen, I too thought the suite would be best for us. My SR's girlfriend is coming with us plus my oldest son is flying in from WA State. He was in the Air Force and when we went to San Antonio, TX for his graduation we were constantly trying to think of things to do and he was so tired. So this time we got a nice hotel room with a fully equipped kitchen and my plan is to just hang out at the hotel, play video games and relax, unless he wants to do other things. I reserved a 2 bedroom suite at the Residence Inn, as you did Thurs - Sun, it is about 3.5 miles from the Base. We are driving in from PA on Thursday. He was told before he left that his school would be right there at GL. Unless that chnges we will have the weekend with him. I checked with the hotel and if things do change we will be able to cancel the extra night with no charge. I am getting so excited already! I'm afraid these are going to be the longest 6 weeks ever!! :(

I'm hoping you tell me it is Tues/Wed, which will verify what I have already received from another person.  Please let me know.  Thanks!

Doreen, when I spoke to my son yesterday, we spoke for about 15 minutes, then he called his Dad, and they spoke for about 15 minutes. I know he also was going to call his girlfriend, but I don't know if they spoke. The call was very relaxed and not rushed. The call will make you feel great and very proud of your Sailor.

It's o.k. that you didn't get back to me.  I'm glad you got to speak to your son--I'm sure it made your day. I think no matter how long you get to talk, you always think of things after you hang up that you forgot to ask. Now they are Sailors and will have access to their cell phones and computers, so we'll have better communication with them. Congratulations.  Enjoy graduation and spending time with your son.

    Hello Doreen!
I enjoyed our Navy Mom lunch at Panera last month!
Perhaps it is time for all of us to meet for lunch again? I know a place closer to Nancy in Elgin called "The Blue Box Cafe."
  • 1after909

Yes, I'll contact the others to see what day/time/place would be good for them in two-plus weeks. I look forward to meeting again!

    Hello
Nancy said that the first two Saturdays or Sundays (in the afternoon) would work for her. Linda said that she is going to Florida for two weeks, but did not specify which two weeks. I'm open any weekend.

    Hi Doreen!

The 5th or the 12th work for me, too. I will contact Linda and see if she is in town on one of those weekends. She favors a restaurant near I-294/355.
