Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
Your Sailor can be assigned to either MM-AUX (Machinist Mate for maintenance and repair of auxiliary equipment), which is also called Machinist's Mate Engineering (MME), or MM-WEP (Machinist Mate for submarine weapons), which is also called Machinist's Mate Weapons (MMW), during the training pipeline. The assignment can be made prior to boot camp or during "A" School.
If he has a contract for a different rating, then let me know and I will give you the info for it.
SierraY...t, I see you have changed your Username so that it no longer contains your last name; you also need to change the URL to this page. Make change 2 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link) to take care of that. (If you are using a Smart phone, you will need to switch to Desktop View to make this change.)
Also make change 3 while you are there so that this page is no longer open to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web.
There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.
Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with your recruit.

"Submarine Mate" is not a Navy rating. Perhaps you mean Machinist's Mate (Submarines) (MM SS)
If som join Sub Moms and GROTON, CT. SUBSCHOOL & "A" SCHOOL MOMS and check out the group, Machinest Mates, and Naval Submarine Base New London Facebook Page.
The Rating Information Card for MM SS can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mmss.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)
