Welcome to Navy For Moms!! I'm glad you are here! I need to forward you an important welcome message from our website admins. You might need to make a few changes. Not sure if your last name is part of your profile but it's better to safe than sorry!!! Welcome Aboard!!
We ask that our members not use a last name in their Username - even if it differs from their Sailor's - so please head to “Settings” on the main page as soon as possible to create a new Username, then add a profile image and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.
Then jump right in! Browse around the site and check out the groups and their Discussion Forums Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas! You can join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.
Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question. This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor. Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in September. You will meet others with loved ones leaving 09/16/2017 or that week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together.
I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view.
You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. Plan to leave late Sunday or on Monday if you are able to do that. (See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.)

Since your future Sailor will go to “A” School for Boatswain's Mate (BM), join Boatswain Mate. You will also want to join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.
The Rating Information Card for BM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/bm.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)
You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. Plan to leave late Sunday or on Monday if you are able to do that. (See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.)
