Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.
Then jump right in! Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.
Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!
Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question. This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor. Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in June. You will meet others with loved ones leaving 06/27/2018 or that week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together.
Be sure to join your PIR group once you getThe Form Letter, which now arrives 9 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC in most cases.
If you would like information on your future Sailor's rating (job/occupational specialty) or field, then let me know the rating or field. There are groups for most specialties and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend.
We have been told that calling cards are good. I have given my daughter one to put in her wallet to take. My son left last week, and I gave him one also.
Here are some sites for you to read on, and when the box is delivered someone may need to sign for unless you can make arrangement with fed ex. Just a reminder for you.
It will usually arrive by FedEx within a few days, but it can take up to 2 weeks at times.
On about their fifth business day at the RTC, the new recruits are tested on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 7 seconds for female recruits. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. Those who pass continue with BC. Those who do not pass are moved to FIT and will be retested in 48 hours and must pass in order to continue at the RTC. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ... for more information.
Here is a way to figure when your Loved One's PIR may be but the sites I left for you will give more insight. Again welcome and please reach out if you have any questions. I help out on Boot Camp Moms please join.
To guesstimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays, after your recruit arrived, including the Friday of the week that your recruit arrives at the RTC
