Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!
Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.
This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.
Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
I would love to hear from anyone that has someone in Bootcamp right now. My daughter has been there now for a week. She is going into the Nuke program after graduation. Any other Nuke Moms out there?
Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR.Plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday. SeePIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekendto help you know how to plan your weekend.
Jana, LeAnn sent me your profile, but I had also noticed your question on Nuke Moms group. I posted a reply, and will send you a friend request as well.
Good Morning Ma'am Thank You for friending me and Welcome to Navy Moms, So Glad to have you along. Please if there is anything you are needing any questions or concerns please let me know and if I dont know the answer I will direct you to who may. Have a Great Day!
Hi Jana, your Sailor will be able to have his/her phone, laptop, a Blanket, New Tennis (a Must) before they go on Liberty they get briefed so they will know what they can or cant have. Also they will not be able to have it out so the less things they bring the better because space is very limited. If you go on to my page I have a Pic of my son and his Buddies that was taken in his room at A school. Now not for sure if they all look that way.
He just turned 18 in May. I know he is probably fine but just being able to talk or even text with him is the hardest part. This is by far one of the hardest parenting moment ever
yes this is by the far the hardest thing I ever hard to do as a parent. I feel so helpless at this point. I am sure once I get his letter and talk to him I will feel a lot better. My son is 18 and he has a great head on his shoulders and I know he is fine but just not talking to him bothers me.. But I have to say all of these moms and dads in these groups have really helped a lot.
Jana, I received my first call (8 min) on Tuesday. That would have been 3 weeks since he left for MEPS and 1 day shy of his arrival in GL. He told me he was just on 2-2 day as the first week was P days for processing. He developed the Flu and pink eye in the first week. Actually threw up on his Chief....Oh Dear!! I received a letter he wrote last Sunday this past Saturday and I find that mail takes 3-4 days to arrive. As of Tuesday he still had not gotten any mail from home. Apparently if they dont have a Petty Officer assigned to distribute mail it gets held up. Hopefully by now it has arrived.
They only get to write on "Holiday" which is 6 hours on Sundays. Mail goes out on Mondays. Sometimes they get more days to write during the week depending on how well their Division is doing.
I did the same thing...I got his address from the recruiter and started sending before I received the form letter. He didn't get the mail I sent anyway and I guess it has something to do with where he is at in his boot camp schedule. I believe they don't want them to get mail to soon as they are still washing them so to speak of the civilian life.
I can say...the call is hard. Keep a list of questions you want to ask because you will go blank and after they hang up you will beat yourself up over not asking. Plus I think they are all emotional when they finally call and here your voice. I can't imagine what goes through a young RS who doesn't make contact with their families. I can't wait to here how things are going for your daughter.
Divisions419and420are brother divisions and train together and will haveBattle Stations-21 (BST)together, so lookfor others with loved ones in either division. Write to your recruit and askwhenBattle Stations-21 (BST)will be so you willknow when to expect the "I'm a Sailor!" call.
Since you have a Sailor, you can change "At Boot Camp now" above to “Enlisted.”
If you get an error message, then look at the area/s in the error message and unclick all of the choices in the area/s and make choices closer to the question/s. Some choices may have changed since you joined.
Hi Jana - saw your message to "all" members in the nuke moms group. You should post your question on the actual nuke moms page - that way everyone will see it and can respond. There's lots of moms with sailors at GC right now.
Jana, I received your comment, I just have mine set to approve first. I also saw your PM and I have responded. Look for it in your Inbox that is in the upper right corner of this page, which should be your My Page.
My son is in GC. He started his first week of school this week. He arrived at A school on November 3rd. I am not sure what his rate is but he is classified as FM.

Since your recruit has a contract for the Nuclear Field, join NUKE moms; you may also want to check out Nuke A School FAQ and Nuke School Charleston. You may want to check out these facebook pages: Naval Support Activity Charleston, SC and Naval Nuclear Power Training Command Facebook page.
The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.) https://www.thebalancecareers.com/navy-enlisted-rating-descriptions... has some good info for you.
Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. Plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
Your Sailor may have Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY; if so, join Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NYat that time. Some stay in Charleston.
