I'm a wife, mother of 3, grandmother of 1, and a nurse for 25 years. I love my God, my family, and my country. Proud supporter of the United States military...my youngest brother served in the Navy for 11 years, and now our youngest son is preparing to head off to boot camp at Great Lakes in 3 weeks. Here to both give and receive support...
Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.
Then jump right in! Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.
Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!
Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.
This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.
Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
Hi bambampa3 - I am one of the moms that helps out on the BC Mom group. I am a little late sending you a personal message when you joined and I know you have introduced yourself already but I just wanted to check and see how things are going? I know you are finalizing things with your youngest - get lots of hugs and BNMH (Big Navy Mom Hugs) from me to you!! My son left three years ago tomorrow - he was glad to be in GL during the summer and I am always working on some summer project, so I told him the time would probably go by faster for me than it would for him, and it did!
babmbampa3 - long comments are not a problem. I hope that you are following along in the comments on the main BC group page. We have a mixture of new members with SRs in the same place as you and some that just graduated BC last week as well as long timers that stick around to help out. It is very hard to not be able to go to MEPS but if they are allowing you to go to the airport afterwards that is great. Be sure you have a mask to wear and your ID that you would need just as if you were flying out yourself. Hopefully, you can still get a guest gate pass from the airlines that your son will fly out on and stay with him till his plane takes off. Be sure to tell him to get a selfie photo op shot with the commander that swears him in. And also tell him to call you when he lands in GL, that will be the last regular call you might have with him for several weeks. You should still receive an "I'm Here" call, when he gets to his housing in GL, but it is a short, scripted call that he can't say anything else, but he should give some instruction about his next call ? maybe - and just say I love you - be prepared for the call to come very late.
