Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.
Then jump right in! Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.
Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!
Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.
This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.
Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
Good Morning Catskill Mountain Gere - I saw your question in the main room chat. That is not where we do a lot of our conversation and usually I would recommend that you join the BC Mom group. However, you said your son had already completed BC. So, to answer your question, your son will not receive his cell phone until likely he is leaving for his A school which could be in a few days or it could be a week or more, depending on their transportation to A school. They are transporting the new sailors by avenues other than public transportation so it just depends.
My suggestion, send your sailor a text message and ask him to please at least send you a reply back when he has his phone. I would also call and leave a voicemail congratulating him again.
Do you know if he is going straight to sub school or is he going to a different A school first?
I moderate my comments but feel free to reply to me and I will respond as soon as I am able to. My son has been in for over three years now and is in the fleet on a carrier as a Nuke. I help out on this site much like the rest of us as we are able.
Thank you for the friend request. I will send you a PM - private message. That is a better avenue for us to "chat" through as it is not public on the site. I have to be away from my computer for awhile, but I will check back later.
