    Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Then jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.

Join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.

Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.  This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.  Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!

Saltybabe - I just was posting a reply to your comment on Kimberly Joy's post and had a notification that you had joined the BC Mom group - Welcome Aboard!

There is a lot of information on this site and it can be overwhelming to a new person as to how to navigate around. I encourage you to use a computer if possible as it is easier to see the full screens. If on a mobile device, we recommend putting it in desktop mode.

When you click on your link to the left here for the BC Mom group, go to our group page, scroll down past all of the information posted, down past the discussion area and then you will come to a Comment Wall area. This is the best place to post your questions, concerns, just your ups and downs of this "great silence" time as we call it. More members are likely to see your posts there because they come to our email feeds versus even the discussions above.

If you need anything click on my chipmunk here or reply to this comment and you will reach my profile page. I have a lot going on at home so if you can post on the group page that is great, and you might get an answer sooner but I do my best to reply within 24 hours.

Thanks for reaching out! I am finding my way :) What an amazing community you all have created here.

Saltybabe - i am keeping your comment private on my page - so it is okay to reply to this and let me know what his ship name is - You might have to wait for another call to verify about writing him, because I believe you are right, I don't know that his form letter will be correct.

Saltybabe - I am apologize for the delay. I had a very long day yesterday away from my computer. I will see if I can reach out to another member on this site who might have more direct information than I do about the ship names. In the meantime, here is the link to RTC with the ship addresses by ship #  - Recruit Training Command - FAQ (navy.mil) I honestly don't know how to answer your question. There are a lot of changes with the new additional two weeks that we do not have the answers for entirely.

  • Chipmunk

Saltybabe - I have not heard back from those that I reached out to. I will do my best to see if I can get some other help but for now, I would just send a letter to the address that you have, don't put anything in it but just a short note of encouragement and that you need his actual address because it might not get there.

If he calls, be sure you ask for Ship # & Div #. If we have those two things, then you can use the address page that I gave you the link to and properly address his mail.

Saltybabe - Go to this link and read through the information - at the bottom of the page is the ship # & name listed. This still won't tell you his division # but it is better than nothing.

Ship/Division--How it Works - Navy For Moms (ning.com)

Hopefully, he can call you with his new mailing address.

This link is from one of the pages on the right side of the BC Mom group page. I didn't even think to look there. I used the RTC website for most of my information when my son was in BC and did not find this site until a week before PIR, so I even forget to look at all the information posted on the group page. Sorry for the delayed reply.

Saltybabe - did you find the information that I was trying to share with you?  If you have difficulties posting on the site you might try using a computer if you are on a mobile device. Also, you might need to reboot the computer, or refresh this page or sign in and out. I was just having some difficulty myself posting something on a group and so I had to sign out and back in again.

Have you heard anything more from your SR?

  • Chipmunk

Saltybabe, yes, your comments are posting on my profile page. I have mine set to moderate them, so that I can view them before they post and are visible to others. Because you are sharing some more personal information with me, I have not allowed them to be shared visibly where others might see them.

So now that you have both his ship # and his Division # you should be able to mail letters to him that he can receive. This link has information about graduation - Recruit Training Command - Graduation (navy.mil) -scroll down to where it says Graduation Dates and Divisions. If you click on that, it has another spot to click on and you should be able to scroll down, find his division # and when his PIR should be.

As for that division, they also put other rates in it as well and they will likely be assisting in various areas during their PIR, either with ushering or as a "body snatcher" to stand and go back and forth in the formation lines to make sure none of the new sailors fall asleep or lock their knees and faint.

Here is the link again to the ship addresses. Just find his ship number and then fill that in and the division number as shown in the example with the ship address that is listed.
