    Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Then jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.

Join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.

Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.  This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.  Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!

Hello Lisa, I just wanted to say hi on your profile page so if you ever need anything or want to message me, you can find me easily. I moderate all comments that are post on my page, so if something is of a more personal nature, I do not allow it to be visible.

Hi Lisa, Have you also found a group for your SR's rating? I was just checking.

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning Lisa, Your SRs rating is his job. What he has enlisted for to go to A school and train to do in the Navy. It is different from his rank which is the level that he is at and dictates what his pay will be. I was asking since you mentioned six years which is longer than some of the regular enlistment periods.

If your son has a contract for a more secretive job we always recommend not posting that on the public pages, make sure this your profile page is at least set to members only and some of them set them for private.

B'sNukemom is one of the admins on this site and she can connect you with the more private groups on this site as well. I just do what I can to help out with new members as much as possible to assist her. We all volunteer our time on this site and keep paying it forward.

Lisa, my definition below is the simplified easier for me to remember version of the difference between rating and rank but also may not be the precise, accurate terminology - especially since I was double checking online before I posted something and I got overwhelmed so stopped.

Anyway - when we ask what your SR's rating (not rate) is, we are generally asking what is their job?

The word rank has a lot of different definitions and so I am just going to apologize if I confused you.
