HI - I'm over in Superior Twp, just outside Ypsilanti. My daughter Katie entered the Navy on 10/8/08 and is a DC on the USS Essex our of Sasebo, Japan. Hopefully your daughter will heal quickly and be able to graduate with her PIR group. Where will she be headed for A school, what is her rate?
Sonja - There are ohers in this group that are from the Grand Rapids area. Katie likes Japan to a point, but she really likes to be out to sea. She has been able to be home the last 2 Decembers (1 at Christmas and last year over New Year's), but not this year even though she was suppose to have the special OIETP (?) 30 day leave this year. The #s are really low for leave to the US off her ship. Katie has been to the top of Mt Fuji and a few other places, think she just doesn't have friends that want to travel much and she doesn't want to go alone. Katie never played softball in her life, but was on a team this summer while they were in port. The Essex offered a Gator Cruise last summr, so my youngest son and I went for a 4 day/3 night cruise from Sasebo to Yokosuka - it was a WONDERFUL experience.
You said your daughter was an E-3, did she do JROTC or school before joining?
