I have a page on my site called PIR Weekend and it will give you lots of great info...here is part of it regarding liberty for your sailor...:)
here are 2 different things that can happen after this point depending on where your Sailor is going to A School. If your Sailor is Leaving Great Lakes, they will be on Liberty for the rest of the day from that point on. You can leave the base right after PIR and they will let you know what time they have to be back. Keep in mind if they have to be back at 2100 hours (9 pm) they need to be back on base by 2030 hours (8:30 pm) since it will take them about 20 minutes or so to get to their ship.
If your Sailor is staying in Great Lakes for A School, they will only have about 30 minutes or so to go to the NEX and get photos and visit. They will then go back to their ship and pack up and move to the Naval Training Base side. They will have to check in and get everything taken care of there before they have Liberty. You will be able to meet them around 1500 hours (3 pm) at the other gate. Make sure you make arrangements of where to meet after PIR so you will both know where the meeting place is. They will march them to the gate and you can meet them there. Next to the gate is a Museum. Tell your Sailor you will be standing next to the Museum near the airplane. That will give you both a place to meet and avoid the cluster of families waiting for their Sailors. When your Sailor comes out for Liberty they will have Liberty the rest of the day until around 2100 hours (9 pm). They will also have Liberty all day Saturday as well, so you will be able to spend the entire day with them. They will have Liberty both Saturday and Sunday.
