Hi Gaby! Just reading your previous posts. We go through so many emotions. I was scared when my daughter came home and asked her dad to go to the recruiters. This was the furthest thing from my mind. We had been looking at colleges in our area. She was interested in golf management. She graduated from high school and 8 months later she started bootcamp. Being an aviation machinist mate certainly was a surprise job choice for her. But she seems to like it. She says some days are good and some days are work. Not many girls in her squadron. She works on helicopters. The guys treat her equally. She has made some close friends and they do alot on their off time. Mountain climbing, kayaking, surfing and skateboarding are some of the things they have done. She says A and C schools aren't too bad. Just study. Some don't go to C school. If she does, she could be in Norfolk. It's roughly 8 weeks. While in Norfolk, she bought a car and drove cross-country to SanDiego with another girl.
I hope you get the chance to go to PIR. Best experience since high school graduation. Be sure to have fresh batteries and plenty of tissues. I made ribbons for my family. You can order them but it helped to pass the time for me.
Have you been able to talk to your daughter. When you get the "I'm a Sailor" call, it is the best!! She'll be very tired and I mean VERY tired but man......... Just know in your heart she has made the bravest choice to join the best. I wear a pin everyday as a reminder of how proud I am to be a Navy Mom.
