After Basic my son will be heading for San Antonio TX for the Hospital Corpsman Training. His goal afterwards is Combat Medic in San Diego CA. His Ultimate goal is to be a Medic for the Marines... which freakin frightens me!! He had to enlist for 5 yrs. My son is a bit older 22. We were ALL SHOCKED when he enlisted. He had a full time job as an EMT & p/t as a fire fighter. He said he was bored.... quit his jobs & join the Navy. I had a difficult time accepting... I'm glad the waiting period is over & he has deployed to Basic... I no longer have to wonder if he'll change his mind, if he's thinking to change his mind, waiting for glimpse of hope that he will change his mind. I know that must sound awful. It was difficult to support something that you don't understand.  We are not a family from military... another reason we were shocked that he wanted to enlist. Now I wait to hear from him :-)  It's comforting to read comments/post from mom's like you and others... so informative!!!  Thanks for letting me babble... lol

By the way... I had no idea what the "Nuke" program was... I had to look it up.  I'm not familiar @ all with military positions. When my son said he was enlisting as a Corpsman... had no idea what that was... lol.
