My son Kevin joined the Navy last spring and left for boot camp on Dec. 5. It has been very very hard for me as we are super close. Everyone keeps telling me things that I know and it doesn't help. I am feeling physical pain. Hearing things like....it will get better or you will see him again soon, do not help. At this time nothing is helping.
I'm happy you received the form letter and address to write to your son! I totally understand about the physical pain you feel. My son and I are very close, too. I tended to help him with things a lot and I felt helpless when he left and all of a sudden I wasn't there to help him or guide him anymore. He was now at the mercy of the Navy and I hoped that they would take care of him even though it's their job to push him. He called again on Sunday and I could hear the change in his voice. he sounded so confident and I know he was super proud of his many accomplishments. That's all that matters to me. My crying fits are less but I still have them and the silliest of things sets them off. Ooops, I didn't mean to ramble on. I hear mail is very importans to them so write him as much as you can. I know my son can't get enough of our letters and I send my son books of stamps and he says that is helpful.
