I am not actually a mom of a navy sailor. My little brother is in the Navy and will be shipping out on December 7th and to my knowledge won't be seen for 3 to 4 years.

    Get him to put you on the list to receive updates from the ship. Get his boat email address. Write newsy letters of encouragement.  He may not have time to write often, but will be thrilled to get the email.  Read through the posts and discussions on the ship page, then ask questions.  You will be surprised at the amt of contact you will have with him.
