My wife and I are in our late 20s, and needed a change in life. She had started her Doctorate in music and wasn't happy where it was going, I was struggling to get a Music Teaching job in the area where she was at school. So, the Navy was the answer. We auditioned, and she got in! Unfortunately, I did not. I still can audition again, and will when she is stationed. She started boot camp 1/11/11 and will have her PIR 3/11/11. She is in Ship 2, Div 917 and is the Yeoman. She is awesome, the best thing in my life without any doubt (though, our cats come a VERY close second place, lol).. We will be spending our next 3-6 months at Norfolk while she goes to A-School. I will be taking Trumpet lessons with a former teacher of trumpet at the Music School. I really hope I pass my next audition, but am positive, that even if only one of us can be a Navy Musician, this was the right choice.
