Pat I noticed your post in Japan Moms...I was one for 3 years and my daughter was in Sasebo. Katie was on the Essex which did a hull swap with the Bonhomme Richard (BHR). The Germantown and Essex/BHR would sometimes go on deployment together if they were headed for the same international maneuvers like Cobra Gold and such. Your son can call from the USO (for free I hear). Katie had a softbank phone from Japan to communicate with friends there and would sometimes use a phone card or ship to shore card. Katie emailed very regularly, so that was the main way we communicated. Hope you hear more from them soon. Are they in port or out to sea at this time?
