Hi, I saw your note re your son on medical hold. I'm sorry that he is not feeling well. My son returned home a couple of weeks' ago after being in Separation for 2.5 weeks. If your son is ill I do not believe he can suggest separation - only the Navy docs can do this. If he wants to come home, I think the Navy docs will separate him because as I learned 40% of recruits/sailors at sent home between BC and A School (there are just too many to fill too few global Navy positions).
My advice to you would be - if your son does end up in Separation, ask him to make sure he puts your name on the legal paperwork that would allow you to speak for him. This way, you can phone Legal Affairs and get him home quickly. From everything my son has told me as well as what others who have gone through Separation, it is not a place you want to spend time in. There is zero care; there are young men/women who are so distraught at the prospect of being separated from the Navy that it is a very unpleasant place. After 2.5 weeks in Separation, a phone call from my son who was sobbing prompted me to phone Navy Legal and get him home ASAP.
Hi! So happy to see that your son's health has improved! I am thrilled for him and for you, too, as I know how difficult separation is and what being a part of the US Navy means. My heart still breaks for my son. I saw your post via a link sent to my email (as I am part of the Ship5 group). Here is the info I received -

They first found a cyst on his kidney, but was cleared, now he has a swollen spleen that he has to see another doctor next Thursday. He was supposed to go to Goose Creek for NUKE school and I am curious how long he might be in Great Lakes before a decision is made? Should he suggest a separation?
