My boyfriend of 5 years has now entered the navy in the DEP. He left to go to Basic Training on 11/17/2010. I am doing all that I can to educate myself in what to expect for his upcoming Navy Career. His PIR was on 1/21/2011.
He will now be attending the AECF A School in the Great Lakes. His family and I are so very proud of what he is accomplishing in his life. We fully support the direction he has chosen to do.
Hi, welcome to the AECF group. Your boyfriend sure is hitting boot camp at a tough time with all the holidays - hope you are holding up okay. He is going into a great field with lots of schooling on the front end and good advancement. Expect him to be in GL for about a year and then he will move to another state for C school. Length and location will be determined at the end of A school. Our son is an FC and is now stationed in Hawaii! Please let us know if you have any questions and welcome to the group!
Expect your boyfriend to be in GL for about a year for schooling (give or take a month or two) once he graduates from A school, he will move to another state for C school which can last 3 months to 9 months depending on what school he gets assigned to. Generally AECF sailors are in school 18-24 months.
They will tell him at the end of boot camp which rate he is going into. It doesn't matter which rate he wants - they assign the rate. The good news is both are great rates with lots of schooling on the front end and that is a good thing in the Navy. Once he finishes his A and C school programs, he should be a Petty Officer, which is a great start to his naval life.
I was a Navy wife for over 10 years, my hubby was an FC and now our son is an FC and is stationed in Hawaii. Let me know what questions you may have and welcome to the group.
I knew my hubby for 13 years before we married, he did the first few years of Navy life single and then we got married when he was an E5 and home on leave. We then moved to Japan and have enjoyed life together for 25 years together. Separations can make the heart grow fonder :-) And although the divorce rate in the military is off the charts, for those that are mature, supportive and in it for all the right reasons...it CAN work! Be strong finish your degree while he is doing his schooling and it will all work out.
