Hi! I am Jackie, and my son, Michael shipped out to bootcamp August 27th. He is our only child. We live in Monmouth County, NJ just a mile from the water; perhaps that is where he got the inspiration to join the Navy!
Update: He is now officially a Gunner's Mate
Hi Jackie,
Yes, you are so right, it is very hard not knowing how they are doing. Not being able to text him, or call him whenever I feel like it, or whenever he felt like it. In a way, there was no transition, like there would have been if they would have went to college, for example. It just feels like my son was ripped away from me, and being his parent no longer counts. But on the up side I've been told by many, many people that if you choose to join the military, the Navy is definitely the branch to be in. I think once they get bootcamp behind them, things might be more "family friendly". In the mean time, this site truly is a great resource to have.

No letter or phone call for me yet. I keep hoping to hear from him any day now.

Have you heard from your SR recently? I haven't heard from Cinthia but thank goodness only a few more weeks. Hope your son is doing well.
Best, Katy
