Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.

What is your recruit’s rating (job/occupational specialty) or field going to be? There are groups for most specialties and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend.

Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link).

If your Username contains your last name, also make changes 1 and 2.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your recruit.

Since you have a recruit at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to “Enlisted” or “At Boot Camp now.” Either is appropriate. You can make that change on the same page when you change the ZIP Code.

Join Ship 5 Moms(Formerly Ship 17) and see FAQ about SEPS and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ship5/index.html for more information on SEPS.

Be sure to have your recruit sign paperwork with legal so that they will be able to discuss the situation with you if your recruit wants that to happen. He will also have to sign the HIPAA form for you to speak with anyone about the medical condition. '

There is additional info for you at http://www.navydads.com/group/ship5formerlyship17 and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ship5/ship5.txt. FAQ about SEPS indicates that phone calls are authorized daily, but the recruits may not have access to phones every day to make calls. Those in SEPS are usually able to go to the NEX at least twice a week--females on Monday/Wednesday and males on Tuesday/Thursday--and sometimes on Saturday and the recruits are able to access the phone banks on those days and make calls if they have a phone card.
