The "Navy Bootcamp Family Unite! Oct 24-28th 2011" is a great faceboook page for family and friends that sent sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands and boyfriends off to bootcamp the week of 10/24-10/28. Wonderful group of people.
Hi Peetreemama! My son PIR'd on 11/23. I also missed his 1st call (the 'I made it to GL safely' call). But it does get better. I carried my cell EVERYWHERE! I didn't want to miss the next call in 3 weeks. I had to remind myself that he made a great decision and a huge leap towards manhood. I began writing right away, even-though I didn't have the address yet. It was therapeutic, plus I made sure I mentioned how/why I missed his phone call, just in-case he felt a little down. But he was fine! Write him alot and encourage friends and family to write also. Some letters only contained a few words, an encouraging poem to share with his shipmates, a funny picture, sport scores, or just something funny/interesting about my day. You could even draw a goofy face just to make him smile:), You will receive his belongings soon, along with the form letter, which has the address and graduation date. On the back of the letter, they are allowed to write to you. And I'm sure he'll tell you that he is doing great and how much he loves being at GL. If he does not have a phone/calling card yet, as soon as you receive his address, send him one. They have to purchase a mandatory calling card at the NEX, but I believe it has 180-200 minutes only & cost $20! Sam's Club has great deals on calling cards! I hope this helps. Best Wishes and Blessings to you, your son and family.
