If your son is staying in GL for A school, you should plan on spending the weekend there. Most sailors will receive liberty their PIR weekends, some will have to report back to their ship at night, some will have the full weekend off.

What the recruiter is telling you about how long is school is - is correct. Alot of his schooling is self-paced. So some sailors will finish sooner than others. Once they PIR, they go to indoc for about a week and then to SCC (basic seamanship classes) SCC runs in the evenings and about two weeks long. Once they finish SCC, they go to ATT (apprentice technical training) and it is self paced computer programs once they complete ATT - then they start A school. Your son will have a targeted graduatation date on his A school orders and most of them will finish right around that date. Good luck to your son!

    Vivian and Glen,

I just read your post and think it is wonderful that you opened your hearts and family to invite some sailors to join you for your family festivities. God's blessings on you for that kindness. Yvonne and I did the same thing here in Virginia Beach. I can't imagine these young people not being able to go home and having to sit in the galley for Thanksgiving dinner. Yuk! Again, blessings on you.
