- Having been active duty with my ex from 1986 to 1994, I learned never to say 'good-bye'...it was always 'I'll see you soon'. The day he left was always so sad, but the day he came home was awesome! I'm going into this experience with my son knowing what to expect...but glad to know we can communicate better now that what it was like in the 80's/90's.
